Funny old game.

I'd have thought Essendon could use a player like Anthony Miles ahead of Corey Ellis.

I reckon they lack a real inside mid type, which Miles could provide short term.

Even if he performs well, Ellis will just be anupgrade on apposition the Bombers look to have well covered.

GOLD COAST

Corey Ellis could easily be part of a trade to the Suns that gives the Tigers some cap relief involving a trade of back-end picks.

Tom Morris from Fox Sports is reporting the Gold Coast Suns are interested in Richmond’s Corey Ellis.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a possible target for the Suns after playing just four games this season.

“They’re looking to recruit players that have experience but haven’t quite cut it at AFL level yet,” Morris told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

“The Suns are clearly looking for one sort of player. They’re just four names that have been thrown up at the moment. I’d be surprised if they didn’t get at least a couple of them.”

Ellis was originally taken by the Tigers with pick 12 in the 2014 national draft, but has only played 27 games of senior football.

The Suns have already been linked to Richmond duo Jacob Townsend and Anthony Miles, who are the past two winners of the VFL’s best and fairest award the JJ Liston Trophy.

The Suns are expected to lose star forward and club captain Tom Lynch to the Tigers

Second Tiger to cross to Gold Coast

Jake Niall
The Age
25 Sep 2018

Richmond's Corey Ellis is set to sign with the Gold Coast Suns and will be the second Tiger player to cross to the Suns in this year's trade period.

Ellis, a first round draft pick in 2014, played four senior games this season for a career total of 27 for Richmond. He will be traded to the Suns, where he will be joined by Tiger teammate Anthony Miles, who was pushed out of Richmond's best side in their premiership season last year.

Ellis is expected to join the Suns on a two-year deal.

The Ellis and Miles trades will have no bearing on Tom Lynch's move from the Suns to Richmond. Lynch is joining the Tigers under free agency and while the Suns have the ability to match a deal, this can be all but ruled out given that the Suns will receive pick No.3 in return - a strong return in a draft with a talented top end.

Left-footed Ellis can play on the wing or half-back and while Richmond held significant hopes for him earlier in his career, he was unable to cement a spot during 2017 and 2018 when the Tigers became a powerful side and also suffered barely any injuries.

In addition to the Richmond pair, the Suns will bring in Geelong midfielder George Horlin-Smith.

Interesting to see now whether we do separate trades for Corey and Miles and pick up 3rd/4th round draft picks or they get bundled together to try and gain a higher second round pick.

They will have 2, 3, 19(West Coast's pick), 27, 30, 39, 42 and 74

On points value (assuming they need some for academy picks) 39 and 42 added together are more value than pick 27. So in that case we can probably prise out pick 27.

Good luck to the kid. Had high hopes for him early days but just couldn't take his VFL form up to the big time. That says it all really...
