In terms of football operations expenditure we should be benchmarking next to WCE and Essendon and saving ourselves about $2 million bucks a year. Otherwise I think the numbers show we are there abouts and if we ever ever get our act together the Richmond Footy Club could become an unstoppable financial and sporting powerhouse.

People should see those figures in the light of the fact that weve been poo for 25 years!

Football Operations Expenditure

Richmond ($13.96m)

Gee I really would like ot know how BRW came up with that figure.

I have the RFC full financials and this $13.96m is made up of 2 figures

1. Emplyoee Benefits expenses     $11.88m
2. Football Support expenditure        2.08m

Now I hate to rain on BRW's parade but..............Employee benefits expenditure relates to all employees of the club not just the footy department - so to get an accurate figure you'd need to take out the those employees not in the footy department. Considering we paid around 95% of the salary cap in 2005 there's no way our footy department expenditure would total what BRW is saying.

Oh well I suppose they got most of the others right :-\

They were out by $6 mill last year in regards to our revenue so at least they're getting closer WP ;).

The Crows figures also naively look dodgy. As one of the richest clubs in the league you would think they'd be top 4 at least in every category  ???.

Agree that it can be considered a fair effort RT.  We shouldn’t just assume though, that success will bring about instant benefits, to the degree we might expect.  Clubs like Essendon have gained their status through a lot of leg work, which we haven’t really done in the past.  Otherwise we may have maintained more of our status than we seem to have now.

There’s some evidence to suggest we’ve either slipped (and may have a lot of work to do to regain any advantage we may have once had), or we have a huge latent supporter base just sitting back waiting for something genuine to cheer about.  Maybe a combination of the two.

*The national competition will have eaten into some of our supporter base, over time.

*Even though we still get reasonable crowds to our games, our ‘blockbuster’ games don’t seem to attract the numbers we’d expect.  Crowd numbers would be below that of blockbuster games between the other 3 ‘big’ clubs.  We can only assume it’s because they’ve had more success in recent times.

Looking at things through one eye, you could say RFC would be one of the easiest clubs to market.  But the longer we stay in finals wilderness; you start to wonder what the truth is now.  The only way to find out is if and when we get out act together on the field.  We’ve definitely lost ground on Ess and Coll over the years, but despite everything, still maintained just enough status to hope that things could easily turn our way. :pray

Compared to 2004, the figures for 2005 look better:

Value:
2004: $19m
2005: $27m

Revenue:
2004: $16m
2005: $23.48m

Do we know if that is because they did improve that much, or because the figures were arrived at in a different way to 2004?

In 2004 BRW didn't include gaming revenue in total revenue - don't know why. The correct total revenue for 2004 was $22.22 million.

The most pleasing aspect from my perspective was that our total sponsorship & marketing revenue increased by just on $1 million in 2005.

2005 = $10,833,045
2004 = $  9,835,088

Considering we were coming off a wooden spoon that is a very good result. IMHO we need to achieve the same sort of result again for 2006.

We've definitely fallen back to the pack since the halcyon days but that's not surprising given the "quality" of football Tiger supporters have had to endure all these years. The Bombers were in the same boat before Sheeds came along. Essendon and the Pies are miles ahead of us in Victoria but with Carlton's woes we could quickly move into third spot if we can sustain some long awaited success. Our average crowd figures are still in the top 5-6 of the AFL from memory but we miss out on tv because of our on-field results. More people watching equals more exposure which is what sponsors want.
