…I think the numbers show we are there abouts and if we ever ever get our act together the Richmond Footy Club could become an unstoppable financial and sporting powerhouse.
People should see those figures in the light of the fact that weve been poo for 25 years!
Agree that it can be considered a fair effort RT. We shouldn’t just assume though, that success will bring about instant benefits, to the degree we might expect. Clubs like Essendon have gained their status through a lot of leg work, which we haven’t really done in the past. Otherwise we may have maintained more of our status than we seem to have now.
There’s some evidence to suggest we’ve either slipped (and may have a lot of work to do to regain any advantage we may have once had), or we have a huge latent supporter base just sitting back waiting for something genuine to cheer about. Maybe a combination of the two.
*The national competition will have eaten into some of our supporter base, over time.
*Even though we still get reasonable crowds to our games, our ‘blockbuster’ games don’t seem to attract the numbers we’d expect. Crowd numbers would be below that of blockbuster games between the other 3 ‘big’ clubs. We can only assume it’s because they’ve had more success in recent times.
Looking at things through one eye, you could say RFC would be one of the easiest clubs to market. But the longer we stay in finals wilderness; you start to wonder what the truth is now. The only way to find out is if and when we get out act together on the field. We’ve definitely lost ground on Ess and Coll over the years, but despite everything, still maintained just enough status to hope that things could easily turn our way.
