Coming to melb, living with Dimma, I am sure we have a pretty good idea of the risk reward, Plus imagine the headline, Sydney beats Sydney

“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

RICHMOND is hoping to offer talented WA teenager Sydney Stack an AFL lifeline, with the Tigers inviting him to train at Punt Road.

The Tigers submitted a request to the AFL over the weekend and is waiting for League approval.

If given the green light, Stack will arrive at Tigerland on December 1, and can train with Richmond during the pre-season supplemental selection period until March 15.

He could then join Richmond's list under the new rookie rules.

The speedy midfielder was regarded as one of the most talented of WA's draft hopefuls but was overlooked in last week's NAB AFL Draft and Rookie Draft.

Stack missed the first round of the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships following failure to meet training standards, but quickly made up for lost time with an impressive carnival for WA.

His good form earned him selection in the Under-18 All Australian team, as well as a debut for Perth's Colts side in the WAFL in round 19.

whats the risk? we wouldn't be giving up anything to get him apart from a spot on our list and he would be on the most minimum short term contract available.

if hes got the talent, go for it and back our culture and structure to settle whatever hes got going on away from the field. if it doesn't work out then simply delist him at the end of the season.

Worst case scenario we could even delist him mid-season and replace him in the mid-season draft if need be...... :shh

Tiger cub says potential new teammate would stack up

NEW RICHMOND midfielder Luke English believes his Perth teammate Sydney Stack will "thrive" at Punt Road should the Tigers take a chance on the overlooked teenager next month.

Stack, 18, is set to train with the Tigers from December 1 after being passed on in last week's NAB AFL Draft and NAB AFL Rookie Draft, with the hope of joining the club under the new supplement list rules.

The midfielder's talent is unquestionable but he has admitted to an unstable upbringing in Western Australia, where he grew up around violence.

He was left out of Western Australia's first game in the mid-year NAB AFL Under-18 Championships because he failed to meet training standards, before he came back into the side and earned All Australian honours for the rest of his carnival.

English might only have been at Punt Road himself for two days but he believes his former state-level teammate will benefit from the support the Tigers can offer.

"He's obviously a ripping footballer, an All Australian and really handy around the club," English said on Tuesday.

"He's a real hard player. You can back him in to do the one-percenters and shepherd for you, so I think he's just a team player and just real hard at getting the contested footy.

"I think he'll really thrive in an environment like this, it's such a supporting environment so I think it will be really good, and also for me to see another familiar face around the club."

Stack can't officially train with the Tigers until after December 1, when he and ex-Saint and Sun Mav Weller will be eligible to join the club as rookies under the new rules.

I feel key to all this is what happens when young Sid goes back home for the Christmas break.....and hopefully he doesn't decide to ring in the new year with the old Welcome Spring Butterflies & eight-ball shooters Troy Taylor-style........ :shh

Was it ever suggested that we’d sign him today or just have him train with us first to see how he goes before we commit to contracting him?

Don't actually have to sign him until March (same with Weller)but the AFL still have to give us permission first which I presume also includes permission to train... also heard we'd have to pay him a grand a week allowance while he trains with us which gets included in the salary cap regardless of whether we eventually sign him or not.... :shh
