We have no leaders
« on: March 31, 2006, 11:53:28 PM »
Our team is full of players who are too timid to stand up and take the game by the throat and tear it apart.

Our captain is a disgrace, too quiet and doenst lead by example. How bad is his disposal?

The only player in our team who leads by example is Lids and that is really sad.

Richo did try hard along with Rainsey, but other than that there wasnt much hope.

Spot on Bull. Our leadership group is a sham.

We had no direction at all tonight from the senior players and as you said it was younger blokes like Lids and Raines that showed something.

I'm pretty confident Deledio will win our B&F this year if he stays healthy and if he has another good year next year hopefully he's captain by 2008.

Johnson, Richo, Bowden, Gaspar, Simmonds etc aren't fit to lead a VFL side.

More reason to blame Frawley.
If he hadn't have been on an expedition to recruit every hack in the land, we might have had a few extra kids coming up to that 24-25 age bracket by now and had a great mix of players like the Bulldogs have.

Instead, we have guys who I can't wait until they retire, and a couple of kids who have no direction or examples set them from our so-called leaders.

stuff Frawley yet again  :banghead

I hope that too John. Johnson is an average midfielder at best, and not a natural leader by any means.

At least Richo always has a crack, you can tell that even though he's a highly paid player that he loves the club and will always put his body on the line for it.

Gaspar just stands there as if he had just finished smoking a joint.

I thought Sugar was ok and Richo tried hard. Bulldogs supporters gave it to him but he never gave up. Browny is excused as he's underdone. Most of the rest had dirty nights or were just lazy passengers.

Leadership or no leadership we were totally outclassed. We got smashed out of the centre which forced us to play along the boundary line and killed by our simple dumb turnovers. I reckon 5 or 6 of the Dogs first 11 goals were directly from our kicks hitting bulldogs on the chest. If we hadn't gifted them those goals and snagged a few of our own the score could have been close at half-time. The third quarter avalanche started from two gifts from us back to back  :scream. Reminded me of the Roos game last year.

All 22 doggies ran and ran and ran to present and applied heaps of physical pressure.Their workrate as a team was full-on. We did none of that and played stop-start footy :banghead.

Leadership is displayed by ability and we don't have enough players or "leaders" with ability.  Our 3 main on-ballers - Johnson, Tuck and Coughlan are just not good enough full stop.  Too slow, not skillful enough and not smart enough.  Don't know how, where and when to run to support, don't know how to create, don't know how to play modern fluent fast moving footy.  They were killed by West, Cross, Giansiracusa etc.  Their support team in Krakouer, Hyde and Rodan are VFL standard at best.

We severley need some classy skillful SMART on-ballers on our list and quickly.  Players that know how to run, support, deliver and think on their feet.

It makes it virtually impossible if the engine is average, and the 6 mentioned above basically make up our engine.  Without 6-8 classy runners rotating through the middle, onto the wings/flanks and off and on the bench you are going nowhere, and it makes no difference who's standing in your forward and backlines.

Compare our engine to the bulldogs - West, Cross, Giansiracusa, Cooney, Griffen, Gilbee, Johnson, Eagleton,.....throw in Murphy, Mcmahon for good measure.  Is it any wonder we got hammered ??
Does anyone have half an idea on anything?

Johnson did nothing in the first half when the game was there to be won. Very disappointing. he battled hard in the second half but the damage was well and truly done already and when he did battle it had no effect becuase his kicking was still indiscriminate half the time and the other half the time his team mates stuffed up what he was trying to set up.

Richo tried like he always does, and did some good things down back, but he was still full of Richo moments which are so beyond sad that they end up being funny. He is a clutz. Always has been, always will be. ROFLAMOO@getting caught holding the ball on his feet and lifting the ball with one hand to signal defeat.

Lids definitely has captain potential but i reckon its going to bypass through Cogs first

Lids looks like the up and coming captain but we said the same thing about Cogs before his groin problems. We need A-grade players and a heap of them independently of who is captain. Back to the drawing board at the draft and we mustn't trade any first rounders away.

Stuff it, bite the bullet and make lids captain within the next 2 years - We need someone like this as a leader and if we don't do it he may just f off somewhere else and then we will be left with old fart dregs again. same old same old.

On last nights effort there is no way in my mind Cogs should be captain - seemed to lack intensity and has/had no or very little defensive side to his game and 3 minutes on Johnson in the final quarter when they moved Newman into the centre and Johnson kicked 2 goals. Enough said

Actually our whole "junior leadership" group were average last night (I'm being kind ;)) with the exception of Lids - that says it all really

Yeah his disposal at times was awful but at least when he and Foley were in the centre we made some sort of contest of it.

Can anyone tell me why he spent so much time on the pine in the 2nd qtr? Was he injured? I gotta say I don't get that at all.

Browny is excused in the leadership stakes because I thought his efforts and game considering what he is coming back from were fantastic.

Richo - busted his guts as usual - I never doubt his intensity

As for the other 2 - well I'll leave it at that  ;D
