Richmond's manic messy gameplan is now outdated: Judd
« on: April 08, 2019, 11:00:04 PM »
Judd tonight said the game has moved on and clubs are deliberately maintaining possession while coming out of D50 and players' footskills (eg: at West Coast and Collingwood) are now so much better that they are denying Richmond from tackling them. Richmond's 'messy' manic style of gameplan applying forward pressure that won them a flag is now outdated.

Lloyd added that Richmond's small forwards aren't even doing the latter forward pressure anymore.

Sounds like what they were saying on FC in 2016, saying we would have to rebuild, game plan won't work etc.

FFS, how would West Coast go without McGovern and Kennedy in the team? Stop writing us off when our side is depleted to the hilt

He has a point, rule changes have also helped
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Reckon Judd is wrong
Think game plan still does work
We aren’t bringing the ball to ground thus small forwards are being starved
How many intercepted marks to the Pies have the previous week ??
With the inclusion of Caddy and I would look at a genuine stopper In Townsend
Interesting the inclusion of Lynch has meant entry of ball inside F50 has changed a lot

The players are wrongly thinking that Lynch will mark everything that is being bombed in.....

Can't remember many entries into 50 by us recently to a leading small forward, seems everything is being bombed in to Lynch but once the ball hits the ground our usual forward efficiency in creating a scoring opportunity seems to have deserted us

Don't worry, once Grigg comes back both the forward entry and ruck issues will be sorted... :shh

To me it looks like our smalls are getting sucked too far up the ground and are out of position when the ball comes in.
It looks like they are not working hard enough to get back.
The Collingwood game was the worst as their backman seemed to hold their positions and let our smalls work further up the ground. Same thing happened in the prelim last year.
Both games they were totally dominant coming out of our forwardline.

The problem that I can see is that there is no manic pressure at all rather than the plan is outdated..... :whistle

Think the argument is that there’s no manic pressure because teams have worked out how to get around it. I’m of the same belief of you that it’s our players not bringing the heat but I guess we’ll know for sure in 3-5 games time.

Judd was a great player, but that is all I'll give him.

They have never coached , but have a little truth to what they are saying. We need to play a tight man on man to bring the ball into dispute instead of playing zones, when in dispute the manic attack works.
