And if anyone can explain to me DRS I'd appreciate. The Paine call was bizarre and that's being kind
Former test umpire Talbot explained that the 3rd umpire ticks off his checks:
1. Proximity of the ball to the bat?
2. Any deviation of the ball?
3. Hotspot?
4. Snicko (RTS)?
Even if the first three show no evidence of a snick, if snicko shows even a small spike as the ball passes the bat or the next frame after that (as light travels faster than sound) then the batsman will be given out.
The other thing today showed (again) we are too reliant on Smith and Labuschange. They don't mske runs and we are stuffed
Yep. Those two have covered up the huge cracks in our batting line-up with regular centuries prior to this series. Now they aren't getting those big scores, the rest are being exposed as not Test standard and we're regularly 6 down for 100 or so. Missing Warner too to take it up to the opposition's front line bowlers and set the momentum at the start of the innings. Poor Burns was so frightened yesterday of getting a pair of ducks that he almost ran himself out twice even before his dismissal. We can't carry batsmen with that mindset.
Agree about Head's dismissal too. U14s stuff
.
What's the deal with Smith? He seems way off
He's been misjudging the ball going down leg side which hasn't done over the past few years with his off-stump stance.
One Ch7 commentator claimed Smith is tired after playing IPL in India, T20 & ODIs here and that he hasn't seen his family due to the NSW outbreak. But the Indian players have done the same and it's not affecting them at least in this test.
