:lol Terrible  captaincy. Nothing like Gibbs.

He also can't drop something he never would have had :shh

I'd say this is nearly over this one. We can't lose surely.

70 overs left if they are back out in about 10 mins.

We start to lose overs beyond that period they said.

Covers coming off. They've taken Tea now hoping there will be play in the final session (as long as there's no more rain). There's a pitch inspection at 3pm GMT (1am Melb time).

Now we have to hear Aussies winge  about the "new ball" just like we heard the Poms wings about that  bairstow wicket :shh

Really disappointing effort to lose 4/11

Think the batters have been let off the hook a bit with our bowling and bowling tactics being so shambolic.

Forget Warner because it is clear they don't have the guts to drop him but there are others who need the blowtorch applied.

First one being Labuschange, struggles to score runs overseas. Would actually suggest he goes back to basic rather than trying to be a Steve Smith clone. His century doesn't hide the fact he had a very poor series

Travis Head again gets a start and doesn't go on with it. Costly.

Green, reckon being dropped will actually be good for him.

Overall for me at least it is just a relief that we retained the Ashes

4/11 kinda says you can and we did  ;D

We didn't lose  the series though WP, we drew  :shh

Very lucky with the last test or McDonald would be close to his last legs.

Really disappointed to wake up to that result.

Rain hurt us, ironically. Was good batting until the rain and cloud cover came along.

By and large very disappointing to go from 2-0 to 2-2.

Saved by the rain in the 4th test.

Very much aware we didn't lose the series. As I said relieved we retained the Ashes

But as Andyy said disappointing to go from 2-0 to 2-2 with the rain saving us in Manchester. We were very very poor in the last 3 tests

McDonald should go but he won't. Contracted, the board will say we won the world championship thing and retained the Ashes so he will get a tick. Throw in that Cummins loves him and there is no chance of him going anywhere...

While the rain saved us in Manchester, it stuffed up our momentum twice in the 4th innings of this test. The bulk of our wickets fell within an hour of each time we returned to bat after a lengthy break. Then add batting in the last session of the 5th day under cloud cover rather than the half-day on a docile 4th-day wicket we missed out on. Them the breaks. Swings and roundabouts when it comes to the weather :P. Ultimately though, the 4-5 dropped catches in the first innings came back to bite us. Brook being dropped on 5 and then going on to make 77 is alone greater than the difference in the final margin. All facets of our game fell away as the series went along. We looked and played like a tired team.

Anyway, the history books will say we retained the Ashes away in England on top of winning the world test championship. So, the tour, despite the controversies and our team's many deficiencies, will be classed as a success.

An incredible series comes to an end and the Ashes are staying with Australia.

Thanks to all the fans both here and at home for your support, and thanks for some bloody great cricket @englandcricket 🤝
