Hopes were high for a tough 2019 AFL Grand Final contest when Giants star Jeremy Cameron slotted the first goal after 20 minutes, before Richmond blew the game apart with the next 11 goals.

By the late stages of the third quarter the Tigers led 11.9 (75) to just 1.7 (13).

As far as we can tell after diving into the archives, that burst was a record in an AFL/VFL Grand Final.

Not even Geelong kicked that many on end when it smashed Port Adelaide by a record 119 points in 2007.

The Cats scored 10 consecutive goals – their last 10 goals in fact – to advance the score of 14.15 (99) to 5.4 (34) midway through the third quarter, to 24.19 (163) to just 5.5 (35) late in the final term.

Meanwhile, Richmond’s final score in the 2019 Grand Final of 17.12 (114) was its second highest for the season.

The Tigers kicked 23.12 (150) in their Round 16 victory over Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

Their season-high winning margin that day of 92 points was only three points more than in the premiership-decider against the Giants.

And the Grand Final was only the fourth time throughout the 2019 season that Richmond had won all four quarters in a match.

The Tigers also achieved this in Round 9 v Hawthorn at the MCG, Round 18 v Port Adelaide, MCG and Round 20 v Melbourne, MCG.

And the average age of this year’s premiership line-up was 26 years, 176 days, which makes it the third oldest, behind the 1934 team (26 years, 282 days) and the 1921 side (26 years, 336 days).
