Q. Just wanting your thoughts on best available KPF/FF thats the most suitable for the RFC at pick #22/23 or would it be better to go best available mid. 2 players I'm keen on are Liam McMahon & Eddy Ford. Where do you seen them going in the draft range and who in the current game do you see them most like

A. No key forwards I'd personally target at 22/23. Maybe Nik Cox is there and he's a worthy consideration, but my guess is he's gone and personally if I want a key position player I'd prefer Callow. I'd personally use that pick for something else and personally on a best available selection.

If Richmond want a key forward through the draft go get Jackson Callow or Kaine Baldwin at 36. One of them if not both will be there. Or that's what I'd do.

McMahon I see late second round onwards, Ford second round onwards also. Again, at 36 one, the other, if not both should be available. McMahon isn't on my draft board but Ford is, albeit lowish on my board.

More draft rule changes ...

This morning clubs have been told of two shifts in the rules relating to the draft being held in December.

The AFL have reduced the requirement that clubs take three selections at the draft to just one. Most clubs will make more than one pick but several clubs are considering adding one player from the total pool and then using the remaining points to put academy, father-son or NGA graduates on the list.

The second change is that clubs will be able to take selections into the national draft as if the primary list is still at 40. This is important as clubs have had to take as many picks into the draft as they had list spots available but the uncertainty around list sizes left them concerned about what they could do this season. Some clubs also wanted to potentially trade picks on the night so having an extra number would increase liquidity into the system.

So will we be looking to just use one pick and taking MRJ as a rookie unless a bid comes for him? Can't see us taking more than 2 incl MRJ given we have so many rookies amount to be promoted to the senior list

Height, Weight: 193cm, 92kg

Profile: Suffering a second season-ending ACL, Baldwin is one of the most exciting players in this year's draft and if not for the second knee injury may have been in the top-10 draft mix. Dominating in the Under 16s, Baldwin has proven he is a strong marking force and damaging close to goal.

Clubs have been informed that a significant change has been applied to this year's bidding system in light of the reduction in list sizes and the trading of future picks last year.

Under normal AFL rules, clubs who are matching bids for northern Academy, Next Generation Academy and father-son players are only allowed to use draft points from the amount of picks that is equal to the number of their available list spots.

This has been to stop clubs from stockpiling late draft picks with the intention of only using them to pay for highly rated draftees, even if they had more picks at the draft than they had list spots available, which was an early loophole of the live bidding system. 

But clubs will not be bound by that rule at next month's national draft after the League gave clearance for clubs to use points from draft picks even if they are not going to use the selections to draft players.

The Pre-Season and Rookie Draft will be held the following day on December 10.

They will be virtual events.

How many picks will your club use at the NAB AFL Draft?

AFL.com.au has found there is set to be a minimum of 50 picks used at the draft and a maximum of 63. Most clubs believe the number will finish in the mid-50s.

West Coast and Gold Coast are the only clubs weighing up whether to use a single pick at the draft, with the Suns to claim at least two Academy talents as automatic pre-selections before the event.

Geelong will use a maximum of two picks after sending its three first-round choices to the Giants for Jeremy Cameron, with St Kilda, Brisbane, Carlton, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs all to use either two or three picks.

Sydney and Melbourne will use three selections and Port Adelaide may do the same, with Adelaide and Fremantle favouring taking in four selections on the night.

After their busy Trade Periods, Collingwood, Essendon, North Melbourne and Greater Western Sydney all look set for the biggest investment in the 2020 draft pool by using either four or five picks.

The Hawks, too, are considering using up to five selections on the night but may be as few as three.

Plenty of clubs' decisions on picks will be kept fluid given the positioning of their later selections will be dictated by how early bids come for the assortment of Academy, Next Generation Academy and father-son players around the competition.

Many clubs are also considering taking an empty spot on their list into the summer period for players to train with them under the pre-season supplemental selection period rules.

The AFL has also indicated it will open up signing periods after rounds four, eight and 12 next year instead of a mid-season draft for clubs with open list spots to take some of the talents who have been overlooked at this year's draft intake.
