Hardwick says Maurice Rioli jnr won't be making his much-anticipated senior debut in the Anzac Eve fixture.

"At this stage he won't be in," Hardwick said.

"He's got some significant upside for us - the way he tackles the contest and the opponent is really impressive.

"He's made some significant progress and he's a lot further advanced than I thought he was going to be ... but he's not quite there yet."

Wouldn't it be great if MRJ + Stack returned for Dreamtime.

An absolute dream! If their form warrants it the club should definitely make it happen

Reckon Daniel will lift if MRJ comes in...like to see a Rioli, Rioli small fwd line with Stack (when fit enough) & Baker rotating through...Castagna & Aarts can go the VFL.. wouldn't bring them back if Daniel doesn't lift either...rather just play another tall or mid.... :shh

Rewarding Stack with a game after his past off field indescretions and not even come back fit... what message does that send??

Didn't think I would need to leave a caveat stating that he would need to be fit and earn it.

But if the stars aligned it would be a nice story.

Dimma talking about young Maurice:

"He's going really well. The way he trained on Thursday he nearly trained himself into the side. He's just to continue to learn the rigours of AFL footy. He's coming from a fair way back preparation wise but he's exciting. He can do things others can't. He's just got a little way to go in terms of fitness and preparation. But otherwise from an ability point of view, he certainly looks the part. He isn't too far away which is exciting for us".

MRJ's running half the length of the ground goal: https://twitter.com/CKane80/status/1411183407845896193

----------------------------------------

Here’s a reason to smile Tiger fans: Maurice Rioli Jnr’s breathtaking VFL goal

Two days after their team’s shock loss, this breathtaking Maurice Rioli Jr goal should give Tigers fans a big reason to smile.

Rioli Jnr lit up Preston City Oval during the opening stages of Richmond’s VFL clash against the Northern Bullants to kick a contender for goal of the year.

After a stoppage just outside the Tigers’ defensive 50, the 19-year-old paddled the ball forward towards Ryan Garthwaite, who then handballed back to Rioli Jnr.

And the son of a gun couldn’t be stopped, sprinting away from several Bullants defenders, taking four bounces and kicking a brilliant goal after running half the length of the ground.

It strengthened Rioli Jnr’s growing case for an AFL debut this season.

The Herald Sun reported this week that Rioli Jnr, the son of the late Richmond and South Fremantle champion Maurice Rioli, has lost 5kg of body fat this season, which has helped him improve his endurance and speed.

Although he remains a low-disposal winner at VFL level, he’s been averaging 11 disposals from his eight games so far in 2021.

He got a handball out the back, went for a run and kicked a goal.

No big deal IMO.

…..And struggled to bounce it too.

Wasn’t that special of you ask me playing against the caller dwellers in the vfl and only 6 touches.

I want to see chases and tackles and tackles and chases and the ball bend ways it’s not supposed to through the big sticks.  :rollin

One player who is a chance to debut is Maurice Rioli jnr, cousin of Daniel, with the 19-year-old impressing at VFL level.

“He (Rioli) will certainly be in the squad this week. He just brings a chaos mentality up forward,” Hardwick said.

“His chase pressure and all that is very much like Daniel when he first started. Hard to believe he is probably quicker than Daniel to be fair.

“But he has some areas of his game that he needs to improve but he’s got some incredible strengths that he brings as well so if he does play, that’s what we are looking forward to.”
