He's a long way off. Great experience and has done well in moments. Great stuff. Would like someone in review to highlight the poor efforts to get around him in 3 key moments.

His drop mark, his assist and his goal. Very little support which is what has made us so good.

I think it stands out more when it involves a 2nd gamer

But that connection we've had, that care for each other that’s been the cornerstone of our success for the last 4 years has clearly missing as the season has gone on.

That's for me the most disappointing thing this season

“He has exceeded expectations, I think,” Richmond recruiting manager Matt Clarke said on the AFL.com.au ‘Road to the Draft’ podcast.

“We knew that he was going to take some time given the lack of continuity in his training history.

“It’s all well and good to be playing games, but when you’re not getting good continuity in the week-to-week training schedule, it’s always going to be a bit tough . . .

“But one thing about MJ, and credit to him . . . he always put in the effort, whether it was his schoolwork (at Scotch College) or training, fitness and conditioning.

“If you had a program there for him, he did his absolute best. He never pulled up short.

“And then, to play a couple of games at the end of the year was just fantastic.”

Very underwhelming in his first two games looked a long way off the pace. The good thing is they gave him some games at the level and he now has a better idea of what will be required.

Its amazing in a way if your name is Rioli they are prepared to gift some games for experience where others have to wait.

Keep an eye on this son of a gun for next year.
Really liked what I saw at training. Looks in ripping shape & moving beautifully...think young MJ is set to improve & surprise a few.

Yes, he is looking good, he's also starting to muscle up which is even better!  A big rig is coming.  His dad was built like a cannon ball & was nearly impossible to tackle (but would crush em like an empty tinny with his own tackles), so more of that, thanks Maurice!     :clapping

Love that description of one of the few Tiger highlights of the ‘80’s.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Father son Maurice Rioli Jr’s two late-season games were only a taste of what to come given his rapid fitness improvements.

“He came in and I was thinking it was going to be a development year for him but to play two games was great for him. At the start of the year I didn’t think he was going to feature but he improved every week and he tackles hard, he hunts the ball and he is miles ahead of where he was last year.”

Nice return to the seniors. His kicking penetration over distance is still an issue but his confidence grew as the game went along. Did his job as far as applying forward pressure and then got 3 goals on top as a reward.

14 disposals (7k, 7h, 8c, 7u, 85.7% eff.)
3 marks
4 tackles (2 inside 50 tackles)
6 intercepts
189 metres gained
9 score involvements
3 goals
68% time on ground
