Hardwick delivered the ultimate praise to five-gamer Maurice Rioli, whose return three games ago, the coach said, coincided with the re-emergence of “the Richmond style of game”.

“He was probably a little bit quieter last week, but defensively he’s just elite at what he does,” he said.

“We call it that when he’s playing, people see ghosts (just with) the pressure that he puts on. They know he’s there and around the contest and he’s just exciting and our players love playing with him.

“His energy is infectious and our players feed off it, so although he’s a little bit quieter last week, we think he’ll be much better this week.”

There's some things he does incredibly well and there's areas of his game he needs to improve, but he's young. We like what he brings - the energy he brings. It inspires what he brings defensively. I'm really enjoying what Maurice Jnr is bringing to the team.  It just makes me think of the future when he is a fully developed player going into the midfield & running rings around some of the best - like throwing a wolf in amongst the sheep.  I remember the impact his father had when he first came over, Snr had his flaws & needed to work on a few things but he quickly became the most damaging player in the league.  Snr was a fully grown man & ready-made player who was built like a cannon ball, whereas Jnr is starting as a young bloke still building his body & fitness.  But when all the construction work is finished we are going to have one serious weapon! 
Its only early days but I think Jnr has the potential to be a more all round player than his father ever was, that alone is pretty exciting!

Maurice's uncle and father of Willie Rioli at the Eagles, Willie snr, passed away at 50 from a heart attack. Willie Rioli won't be playing for the Eagles this weekend. Not sure what's happening with Maurice jnr (and Dan for that matter)?

Hoping he can become a bit cleaner with the ball in hand as he gets more experience. Think it might be a case of his brain thinking faster than his body can process which is common in the younger players.
