Rounding out the five inclusions is Maurice Rioli Jnr, who has been recalled following a high-pressure performance in the VFL last week in which he recorded eight tackles.

Oh dear favorites dont have to do a hell of a lot to get a game or a recall.

If he is nothing more than a replica of Castagna where pressure is all he needs then get rid of him now.
Why are we setting the bar so low with this bloke.

I know he has struggled this year but I feel like we are better when he’s in the team.

I agree and I know it’s a very low bar but thought he was ‘better’ offensively and with the ball today.

Jnr will be ok. Just needs a bit of continuity to boost his confidence

We absolutely are - as evidenced in both of today's matches . :shh

Yep. Hopefully he can become cleaner with the footy.

Speed is paramount in todays footy and he has plenty of it.

To me he looks scared of making a mistake with the ball which is why he often doesnt take control or gives it off when he shouldn't. Confidence in his own abilities seems to be shot. On performance with the ball he shouldn't get a game this week but he does make us look better with his pace and chasing. I think he just needs to snag a few goals or hit a few good targets and he will be back on track which is why he should play this week as WCE offers a great chance for these to happen.

It’s before my time but what was Maurice Rioli Snr like in his early days? Was he instantly a game changer or did it take a bit to get going?

He was a star in the VFL right away but he was already 25 and had spent 7 seasons in the WAFL before he came over.  :shh

Maurice SNR was an absolute Superstar. What we saw was sheer brilliance and skill. What we didn't see were his games in WA, WHERE he was even more brilliant. An awesome gloveman too. Could really box and won golden gloves. Could have easily made a career out of boxing. He was the original Mr magic.

I don’t think it matters - his old man was a once a generation player.
Jnr has blinding speed and that horizontal smother in the second was game defining.

He needs to work on his kicking.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

His pressure is vital as is his speed. There was a passage in the second quarter where he combined with Bolton which
was brilliant. Hoping with confidence his kicking will improve.
