Yup was hoping he’d run in and kick the goal. 100% would have been goal of the year. He did the right thing though, credit to him.

#17: A new legacy at Punt Road

Raised among the Tiwi Islands, Maurice Rioli Jr. reflects on his journey to Richmond as he follows in his father’s footsteps.

Full article: https://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/1859118/17-a-new-legacy-at-punt-road

-----------------

Rioli Jr. admitted that he worked closely with the coaching staff to reignite his confidence, which allowed him to get back to playing his best brand of football.

“I came back and played some good footy at the start of the year, but then I felt that I dropped away from that and just lost confidence in myself,” Rioli Jr. said.

“I had a good chat with the coaches, and they had belief in me that I could go back and just build that confidence.

“I went back and did that, and from those conversations, I worked a lot off-field as well with my development plan.

“I just went back to the basics of playing footy and enjoying what I love doing, getting around my teammates and built my confidence from there, and I found myself playing good footy again.

“I was heading in the right direction, and I think I’m still building, and I can’t wait to play this week and every other week, because I’m just looking forward to building my game and playing some good footy with the rest of the boys.”

Hope I'm wrong but I don't think he has it on a consistent level.

He wasn't rated high in the draft, and maybe that's why,

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

You talking in the 3rd person again crawski?
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

From all reports, the name that keeps being pushed to the top of the list by coaches, supporters, onlookers, media and critics alike is....Maurice Rioli!

He has come back in ripping shape and been noticeably fitter, running the field effortlessly as the link player (Lambert role) in the last Match Simulation. I think he plays his best football as an outside midfielder so hope he gets his chance on the wing or rotating from the forwardline into the midfield, far more frequently this year.

Exciting stripes

We've been crying out for more run and speed in the midfield, plus two way running. If Maurice could apply the same sort of pressure to the midfielders as he does up forward, we could get a lot more quick turnovers in the middle that could catch oppositions defense out of position. Hopper and Taranto are one one runners and we've struggled when the ball bounces back the other way - Rioli would run just as hard in defense.

I think he should be given more time in the middle to compliment our ball winners at AFL level just like he showed he could do superbly at VFL level.

Don’t reckon many would disagree with that view Stripes

Tank.

Happy for them to give him a go where ever but so far he does not have the attributes for a mid role at afl level.

I loved his dad as a player, best performance ive ever seen of any player was the claremont South fremantle grand final and then we drafted him.
was over the moon.
Like everyone i want to see him improve and actually make it i like the history, but geez he really needs to pull a finger out here's hoping eh.
My problem with him in the midfield is like i said i don't think he has the attributes for the role at that level and i think there are so many in front of him for a mid role. but hey you never know.
