RCD is lazy I’ve seen his type for years. Unless something clicks he will never make it to the next level.

Whether he'll come good or not is probably moot now anyway...for the foreseeable future, clubs simply won't be able to afford the luxury nor have the list space nor resources to carry slow burners like RCD for years or draft project players like Chol or even the next Soldo trying to develop them into AFL-standard players...... :shh

I dunno.
I mean this whole thing may cause a lot of grief for a while but eventually they will be the money guzzlers they’ve always been.
Junket trips to the USA to see what Pittsburgh Steelers are doing compared to the Oakland Raiders compared to the Texans compared to the Cowboys etc etc.

Won’t be long till they find it inventive and essential to conduct preseason training at some exotic mountain in Peru because the mindfulness assistant to the second tier skills analyst thinks so.  :rollin

Hasn’t stopped a club before even when some were broke what will stop them in the future.
The club that keeps giving.

The list reductions are going to be harsh if they settle on 35...that's 9 players that will need to be cut plus the ones to make room for draftees if the draft goes ahead and that's before you even get to trades...likes of McIntosh, Chol, Miller, Aarts, Garthwaite will no doubt be sent packing but we're probably also going to see kids like RCD, Eggmolese-Smith, Biggie, Ralphsmith and possibly even Ross & Dow all get the arse.... :shh

Rance, Nankervis, Turner, Markov, English, McIntosh, W.Martyn, Aartz, Garthwaite, Miller, Biggy, Naish.
happy to keep Rance if he plays, Nank traded, McIntosh traded. the others not worth much in trades.

Can't see the club turfing Nank and keeping Chol (Though that's what I'd do if it was a choice, still reckon the a CCJ/Chol combo is the way forward long-term, if CCJ stays put that is) ...based on output so far Turner stiff if he goes before RCD -looked very promising at stages last year before injury set him back....Houli should retire...then you have to consider our depth in areas like key defenders and will we really dump blokes we've just drafted before they've even kicked a ball in anger? Who knows? Then if even just one or two clubs fold it will really throw the cat among the pigeons re: list management and if it's the expansion clubs then there's going to be absolute carnage across the entire comp...will be very tricky keeping morale up too if club favourites suddenly get cast aside in order to make room for all the guns and future guns that would suddenly come on the market...hell if Rowell, Anderson, King, Greene, Green.,Kelly, Hopper, Coniglio, Whitfield, Tarranto, Taylor ,Williams , Cameron  etc were all up for grabs you'd  be seriously tempted to clear the decks of almost everyone bar your best 5-6 players and maybe even 1 or 2 of them as well just to get 4 maybe 5 of those names... :shh

Club CEOs willing to share IP to get through this.

Benny Gale on the membership working group given our AFL record 100k+ membership.

'Stunning' move as AFL club bosses join ranks

Sam McClure
The Age
31 March 2020

The AFL’s 18 crisis-stricken clubs have joined forces to create a survival plan to ensure their long-term existence.

Working in unison for the first time, club bosses have put aside their own agendas to share ideas and intellectual property to help each other stay afloat. The chief executives have devised three crucial elements to help survive the game’s economic disaster: finance, membership and state leagues.

Gold Coast boss and former head of football at the AFL Mark Evans will lead the financial working group, alongside fellow heavy hitters Gary Pert (Melbourne), Tom Harley (Sydney) and Trevor Nisbett (West Coast).

Evans will also lead a smaller subcommittee in the financial working group that will concentrate on the best way to deal with a reduced football department soft cap for 2021 on.

He told The Age that the 18 senior club figures had taken a collegiate approach to ensure their survival.

“The best thing that’s come out of this entire situation is the way the CEOs and the AFL have banded together. It’s been stunning,’’ Evans said yesterday.

“It’s been completely the opposite to how it would usually be. Where you would protect the absolute intricacies of your program ... this has been the complete opposite.”

Reigning premiership CEO Brendon Gale will work alongside former colleague and now Carlton boss Cain Liddle to help clubs keep their membership base. In their time together at Richmond they grew the Tigers’ membership base to become the largest in the AFL.

Hawthorn chief Justin Reeves, newly instated Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick, Collingwood’s Mark Anderson and North Melbourne’s Ben Amarfio also form part of the membership group.

Experienced Brisbane Lions boss Greg Swann will help guide the clubs through the problems surrounding the game’s state leagues, helped by Geelong figurehead Brian Cook, Bulldogs chief Ameet Bains, Port Adelaide’s Keith Thomas and St Kilda’s Matthew Finnis.

The 18 club chiefs have also set up a WhatsApp message group, where each can share their ideas.

The Age has been told the idea for working groups started when all 18 club bosses got together two weeks ago on a Saturday morning, the day after the Formula One grand prix was cancelled.

It’s understood the AFL began to contact clubs that afternoon, flagging that the impending season would be vastly different. The club heads agreed they needed to devise a plan of attack, given how financially impacted each would be.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan announced the following Monday that the season would be reduced to 17 games plus finals.

The working groups are now more important than ever, given the possibility of a further reduced – or possibly even abandoned – season.

Several have told The Age the closer bond the club bosses are creating will help portray a unilateral view towards the game’s longevity and will also help clubs to continue to present their own identity.

WORKING GROUPS

FINANCE: Dave Matthews (GWS), Trevor Nisbett (WC), Tom Harley (Syd), Andrew Fagan (Adel), Mark Evans (GC), Xavier Campbell (Ess), Gary Pert (Melb)

MEMBERSHIP: Brendon Gale (Rich), Cain Liddle (Carl), Justin Reeves (Haw), Simon Garlick (Frem), Mark Anderson (Coll), Ben Amarfio (NM)

STATE LEAGUES: Greg Swann (BL), Keith Thomas (Port), Brian Cook (Geel), Matthew Finnis (StK), Ameet Bains (WB).

Despite being a powerhouse I wouldn't be too worried about seeing other clubs fold.

In fact the Schadenfraude inside of me would be delighted.

Gill on Ch7 news tonight said North will remain in Melbourne.

He's also still expecting the season to resume later on in the year.

If the AFL were smart they'd drop this "18 teams or bust: charade now while the supporters of the soon-to-be-culled clubs can't get out on the street & protest..mind you, I'm sure the Norf supporter base could still do it without breaking the ban on public gatherings of more than two people... :shh

yet in the same sentence will be asking us members not to seek a refund on our afl memberships?

FO Gil. You have poorly managed the poorer sides and now will have to pay the price. I hope every AFL member seeks a refund from those scum bags

Clubs believe the month of August is football’s most likely return period following discussions with the AFL on Thursday night.

And Foxfooty.com.au understands the league offered further direction to at least one club on Friday reiterating they prepare for a mid-August recommencement.
