IMO Anzac Day should be rotated between the clubs. At least b/w Vic clubs. The day belongs to everyone not just two clubs. The usual argument is that only Collingwood and Essendon could fill the 'G but there has been regularly a 15-25k difference in crowds between the Anzac game and the return game later on in the year. The significance of the day itself attracts more people to the footy more than any other H/A game; not who is playing.
It would be nice to see other clubs have games, but i've got to admit that Coll and Essendon have built this day up to be a fantastic event, and i think if it was us as one of the teams and we'd done all that, we'd be peeed if say a Carlton or a Melbourne, or Essendon or Collingwood came along and claimed it.
We have to be just as clever and build up our own events. Carlton is your first point of call, i reckon, and no-one else. They are pubic enemy no. 1 and we've just got to find a theme/day, like Anzac Day or like the indigenous game this week against the Bombers and build it up.
I just can't imagine what kind of event Anzac Day would be with the Kangas and Dogs playing, so i say let them keep it, they've done it well.
