Jack Higgins (Richmond)

“I said a couple of days ago that St Kilda is absolutely in the box seat here.

“The Tigers would like to keep him, but he wants opportunity and the Saints are definitely in the offing there.

“I think this one will happen, he’s due back from holidays in the next couple of days so expect this one to pick up pace in the lead up to the trade period.”

Why Higgins is best fit for Saints

Richmond’s Jack Higgins will be at a new club next season as a former recruiter explains why his preferred destination will be the right one.

Sam Edmund and Anthony Hudson on SEN:

Richmond want Higgins to stay and he is contracted.

This is player driven. Been sold the dream at St Kilda.

Richmond are pretty good at handling these things. If Higgins really wants to leave they will accommodate it.

Not sure what the Saints could offer Richmond though as even if it was their first pick #17, it's less than what Richmond drafted him for. Higgins was a first round pick who played from the get go until his brain injury.

The Saints would also need to do a salary cap dump (Lonie) to fit in Higgins.

I think he has a low ceiling and his first year will be his best.

If we can get #17 (probably down to 20+ with slides) I would take it.

Eek that's low.

Minnow club really bottom feeding off our greatness here.

What Higgins being paid? Hope they take his whole 2021 contract...

they will take his whole contract and most likely give him an extension

He is not worth the Aints first round pick this year or next

I'd take a pick in the 30's (late 2nd rounder)

He isn't in our best 28, let alone 22 with the kids we have coming through

you said it yourself Andy, his first season is most likely going to be his best

He basically had a year out of the game and it showed....

No point in keeping him if he doesn't want to be part of our Club

Come on!
If we get a few injuries to our small forwards, he plays.
Another preseason will help him too.
He is a hard worker and will do almost anything to improve.
He might not be in our best 22 at the moment, but the point is he would be in St. Kilda’s.
Our side is pretty hard to get into.
Surely a second rounder is fair- and if they don’t have that, they need to get it.

No complaints on the markov trade because I think that was about right but we should really be getting a pick in the 20s for Higgins. Was a first round draft pick only three years ago, has played more games than he’s missed which for a young player in a 2/3 year premiership side while suffering a major injury is not to be understated and most importantly is still contracted.

Love the wishful thinking on here.

Trade value is based on market value not best case scenario for players

A pick between 30-40 will be about the mark i reckon.

SAINTS STILL IN THE DARK ON TIGER

Ben Waterworth
Foxsports
5 November 2020

St Kilda chief operating officer Simon Lethlean says his club has had initial conversations with Jack Higgins’ management, but the young Tiger still hasn’t indicated he wants to leave the club.

Higgins, 21, played just 10 games and kicked five goals in 2020 as he was starved of opportunity.

While he’s contracted to the Tigers for another year, multiple reports have suggested Higgins is keen to move clubs for more senior opportunities.

The Saints are reportedly the leading suitor for Higgins.

Lethlean confirmed to SEN Breakfast that the Saints had reached out to Higgins’ management, but said “the speculation is further down the road than it is in the conversations”.

“We’ve only had discussions at the early stages that we are keen on Jack as a player,” Lethlean told SEN Breakfast. “But he’s contracted and hasn’t given any significant indication that he wants to come to the Saints or to the Tigers.

“There’s a lot of speculation about that one, but given he’s under contract that’s really with the Tigers to consider. It’s very early days that one.

“We’ve had discussions with his management but it’s not at the stage where he’s told the Tigers he wants to leave because he’s under contract and I think he’s a pretty well regarded player at the club.”
