I rate his aerial contests, he will clunk more of them as he develops.

Dominant compared to a lot of other rucks there.

Was amazing IMO for a kid.

Keep it up mate.

GREAT’S ADVICE TO YOUNG RUCKMAN

With both Toby Nankervis and Ivan Soldo sidelined, it was on Samson Ryan to shoulder the ruckload for Richmond.

And Ryan, just like in his other seven games this season, had some bright moments on Saturday, albeit against another inexperienced ruckman in West Coast’s Bailey Williams.

However four-time premiership Hawk Jordan Lewis called for Ryan to be more creative with his ruck craft during periods when he got first touch on the ball.

“They (Richmond) haven’t got a dominant ruckman, so the pattern you have to establish is (Ryan) is hitting towards his right hip, which is the defensive side for Richmond,” Lewis said on Fox Footy.

“I think the challenge for Ryan is to understand you’re only a young ruckman, but when there is dominance in that area, be a little bit more adventurous with your taps.

“Then work with your midfielders to be more aggressive around stoppages.”

Richmond’s injury woes — particularly to its ruck stocks — have clearly hampered the club this season despite providing invaluable experience to Ryan.

But Lewis implored the youngster to “mix it up” in the ruck so his hit-outs are more challenging for the opposition to read.

Lewis said Ryan was “absolutely” too predictable throughout stages of the game that would’ve been easy for the Eagles midfielders to read.

“Absolutely (it’s been too predictable),” the Hawthorn legend added.

“If you’re an experienced midfielder, when (you’re against) undersized ruckman, the easiest way to get a clearance is to read off the opposition ruckman.”

Hmm im gunna sit back and wait for the knives to come out.
Why well simple Tiger supporters talking up a performance against an undersized  third stringer who is no more of a front line ruckman than Ben Miller is.That was the beauty of playing wce this week. They have third stringers everywhere.

If at any time this year expectations on Ryan should be high it was this week.

Thing is im not having a go at Ryan i know he has a long way to go and he shows promise. Im having a go at supporters building him up on the back of what exactly.

Imo he is miles off being a decent afl ruckman yet alone a good one. Before we build em up how about a bit of context.

Fmd it was only a few weeks ago people were saying he is a kpf.We all know that is not true.

Atm he is skinny, undersized under strength and against season ruckmen it really shows. If Soldo is fit this week then he has to play as first ruck.

At the back of my mind what does concern me is the lack of agility and athleticism. The saving grace atm is he is taking a few grabs.

Me im reserving any sort of judgement on him for at least a couple of seasons.

Claw he was playing another inexperienced ruck and he was awesome.

Means we have a player.

Bailey is taller and heavier than Miller, in no way undersized.

call me what you like but the simple fact is he played against a third string ruckman. IF that was against a seasoned even second string ruckman then i might be more enthused.
I take it we cannot take into consideration the actual competition our players come up against if it detracts from their performance.

Playing against a 199cm 96kg basically kpp of similar age what did you really expect.

So he showed he can beat third stringers great. On wards and upwards eh.

He's 201/101 mate, wake up and stop carrying on like he's a Ben Miller.

Same age as Ryan, standard size for a ruck, and Ryan beat him comfortably.

I don't expect Ryan to beats the Gawns, Witts' and Grundys yet but he's beating normal rucks his own age which is a good sign for a young bloke.

Lol, if he played 100 game but he has played less than 10, and should improve with experience, I feel encouraged

If he was playing at another club, Claw would be singing his praises and bemoaning the fact that we don’t have any developing rucks as promising as him.
