I've never seen a team make as many mistakes as the Hawks today.  Particularly late.

He wouldn’t have to. Nank will ruck 70-80% of the game. CJ is just there to give him a chop out.

In CCJ , RCD or Ross
Out Mansell , Aarts

Tough on Mansell but we are a mid short and need a second ruck now , or at least for the next couple of games...
Does CCJ play enough in the ruck in the vfl?

I’m not sure he does.
He spends some time in the ruck at vfl but because we have a lack of Genuine Key forwards in our system he spends a lot of time forward.  30 40% game time in the ruck would be a good experience for him rucking mainly against their second stringer.
Reckon he would also help Tom Lynch out enormously when up fwd he has to be respected as he does take a real good grab.
Plonk him deep let JR roam where he wants and get TL on his bike instead of being constantly man handled by two or three defenders.

At the end of the day at 200cm and 102kg he is a far better option playing second ruck than Marlion Pickett who is one ruck contest away from being killed . Or for that matter robbing our backline of key defenders and playing them in the ruck also risking injury there aint no replacements for Balta or Astbury if they do go down.

Yes, must play a 2nd ruckman unless its wet then I would play a mid/small like Ross.  Or play the same 22.

What the hell is going on down there. We have a 200cm 105kg very promising Ruck/Fwd who is tracking in the right direction and doing most things right with an ageing Jr and a struggling TL and at the very least people dont want to give him a game it seems including the brains trust fmd.
Insterad lets play 184cm Pickett as a pinch hitter ruck or EVEN rob our backline of its structure and play Balta or Astbury there Cmon people it laughable. Also come on Hardwick at some stage you have to bite the bullet please dont leave it until it is too late just find the right balance of kids playing with the vets.

You are aware that CCJ has been suspended and was only available for selection from this round just completed?

I get your point but he hasn't been available, so I reckon that's a fair reason why he hasn't been playing

Was Jumping the gun a bit as  i dont think they will make any changes despite the glaring need to play a second ruckman.

It wont be just Gawn this week, luke Jackson AT 198CM  had 17 disposals took 5 marks and had 22 hit outs and spent significant time on the ground and in the ruck. Clearly Nankervis could do with a decent hand this week.

Personally id play CC-J, Ross and Rcd despite having a 86 point win.We need to match them inside and big bodied mids in RC-D and Ross would greatly help this week imo.

I agree we should get a 2nd ruck for Sat night vs Dees
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

In the Mix: Round 6

RICHMOND

It is hard to see the Tigers making too many changes this week after their thrashing of St Kilda last Thursday unless Dion Prestia makes a quicker than expected recovery from his hamstring. They've also had a long break to refresh ahead of their clash with Melbourne on Anzac Day eve. After being the unused substitute, Jack Ross staked his claim for a return with 34 disposals in the VFL, while Patrick Naish (33, one goal) and Riley Collier-Dawkins (31) were also very good. Callum Coleman-Jones picked up 22 disposals and kicked two goals, while coach Damien Hardwick says Maurice Rioli Jr is getting very close to his first game after being named an emergency last week but it is difficult to see them pulling the trigger on that this week.

Verdict: Unchanged.

AFL team predictions: Round 6

New Rioli emerges as shock selection bolter.

RICHMOND

B: D.Astbury, N.Balta, D.Grimes

HB: R.Mansell, B.Houli, J.Short

C: K.McIntosh, T.Cotchin, M.Pickett

HF: J.Aarts, K.Lambert, J.Castagna

F: T.Lynch, D.Martin, J.Riewoldt

FOLL: T.Nankervis, S.Edwards, J.Graham

I/C: N.Broad, S.Bolton, D.Rioli, L.Baker

SUB: J.Ross

Team Tips: Richmond father-son recruit Maurice Rioli Jnr is banging down the door for selection with coach Damien Hardwick revealing his tackling pressure has pushed him up the order in team calculations. While the Tiger might have to start as the sub, there’s no doubting he is ahead of where the club expected which could see him debut in coming weeks. Jack Ross had 32 touches in the VFL and is doing his best to jump into the senior side.

But he is 200cm. I'm sure somebody here kept banging on about 200cm and plus were no good. Just can't remember who it was.

This is why Lynch is good. He's only 199cm.

Haha worth a laugh sorry Clawski!

RICHMOND is unlikely to make any changes to the side, but Jack Ross, last week’s medical sub, is pushing for selection after a 34-disposal effort in the VFL.
