I agree with the last 2 posts.
AFL need to come into the real world - which is their most precious commodities right to go out on a Sat night without any fear that they or their girlfriends are sexually or physically assaulted.
That’s the real issue and Gil is missing a trick here.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Paul Dowsley on Ch7 news is now claiming Bolton told staff/security outside the venue that he wanted to kill the guy that made the inappropriate gestures towards Rioli's girlfriend.

The #AFL is at odds with @Richmond_FC over the nightclub brawl that's landed two star players in hot water. Gillon McLachlan says the players should have walked away - as the league's integrity department steps up its investigation.

Damien Hardwick has again defended Tigers duo Shai Bolton and Daniel Rioli after AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan suggested players "should be walking away" from conflict.

Hardwick said Bolton and Rioli had addressed the club, with Richmond now ready to move on.

"We don't condone violence in any way, so don't get me wrong there, but what I will say is there are certain situations where we expect our players to make a stand," Hardwick said on Friday.

"When a young lady is being intimidated (or treated) inappropriately or whether she felt insecure, we expect our players to stand in.

"Daniel, as far as we're concerned, did the right thing.

"Do we want the violence to be part of that? Absolutely not.

"But the fact of the matter is, and I think Gill (McLachlan) is on the same page here, we just need players to make sure that people are treated respectfully."

Jon Ralph on Fox Footy said CCTV of the nightclub incident backs up Bolton and Rioli's description of events. Bolton was interviewed by AFL investigators yesterday (Thursday). Both the AFL & the RFC have seen the CCTV vision. So expect no further reaction from the AFL.

AFL/RFC statement: Rioli cleared; Bolton exacerbated nightclub incident
« Reply #83 on: May 25, 2021, 11:34:55 AM »
Club Statement: May 25, 2021

Richmond – in conjunction with the AFL – has completed its investigation into a recent nightclub incident involving Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton.

Rioli has been cleared of any wrongdoing but the investigation found Bolton had exacerbated the situation through his actions.

Bolton acknowledged his decision to become involved in the altercation was the wrong choice and that violence was never the right response.

“I’ve thought about what happened recently and what could have happened as a result of my actions,” Bolton said.

“When I saw what happened to Daniel, I acted on instinct. I now know that my instincts were wrong and that my actions could have led to a far more serious outcome.

“I want to say publicly that I made the wrong choice, and I am sorry for getting involved in the manner that I did.

“The right choice is to walk away from trouble or for me to do whatever I could to stop what was happening and not do something that could make it worse.

“Violence is never okay no matter the circumstances, and I want to share that message with everyone. The right choice is to walk away.”

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale reiterated the view the Club does not condone violence in any form.

“We encourage our players to do everything possible to de-escalate these situations and to walk away, regardless of the circumstances,” Gale said.

“Getting involved in any altercation is not okay and that is a message we will reiterate to our players.

“These can be highly volatile situations and Shai has acknowledged his mistake. We all need to learn from it.”

Richmond and Bolton will be making a donation of $20,000 to Tomorrow Man which works with boys and men to develop healthy masculinity.

The Club now considers the matter closed.

The Club and players probably now just want to move on but the creep/thug who touched Rioli's girlfriend and whacked Dan in the face would've been on the CCTV vision as well. Should put the coward and his face up on crimestoppers.

Daniel's girlfriend hasn't made a complaint, when she should have

Ditto with the players, not wanting to press charges

Their collective inaction/ refusal to take the matter further is allowing this low life thug to get away with it

If it is caught on CCTV footage the Police can charge the perpetrator with the offence of affray without Daniel's girlfriend having to make a statement.
