The effort was there they just lacked the execution tonight against a very good side. Crows and bombers to come with majority of our stars set to return in the coming 1/2 weeks. If we turn at 7-5 we’ll be in a very good position.

Umpiring had them frustrated and second guessing themselves and wore them down as much as anything Brisbane did.... :shh

We really lack run out of the back half this year. Probably as a result of our midfield issues and not wanting to run off their man too much. Our spread and work rate has been poor when we do get the ball moving our way. Again, perhaps worrying about being beaten when the ball comes back the other way?

We're very unwatchable at the moment  :help

The new batch of kids aren't anything to get excited by and going into the foward line is excruciatingly torturous. We're a low possession team, and when we're getting smacked it's very hard to watch.

I was at the game and the umpiring was terrible. Balta our best. Houli has a shocker. Lots of players fumbly. Music after the Lions scored - Baby Shark???? And the Lions players dancing???
Highlight was sitting next to The Tiger King

IIRC there was a big sling tackle I think it was on Baker in our forward line in the last half of the last quarter, and crickets from the umpires. I thought sling tackles were an immediate free kick??

Yeah Julz, the after goal nonsense on the big screen is embarrassing.

AFL report card: Round 10

Max Laughton, Ben Waterworth, Matt Balmer and David Zita
Foxsports
24 May 2021

RICHMOND

For all of the billing of a Friday night blockbuster, it was always going to be tough for this version of Richmond to head up to the Gabba and beat this version of Brisbane. They acquitted themselves relatively well, keeping within around a goal at halftime, before fading in the second half. They’re not in the top eight right now but it’s fine; they’ll be back.

In the votes

With many big names absent, several lesser-known Tigers stood up, with Jake Aarts (17 disposals, two goals) and Kamdyn McIntosh (19 disposals, 533 metres gained) both having their best games for the club according to the AFL Player Ratings. Noah Balta (17 disposals, seven marks, 13 intercepts) was a rock in defence while Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt each kicked three goals.

Room for improvement

The loss had nothing to do with the free kick count; the Tigers were simply beaten up in the contest. They had just 24 clearances to the Lions’ 51, including 13 to the Lions’ 35 from stoppages, along with big losses in the inside 50 and contested possessions counts. Dustin Martin had an atypically quiet night, spending plenty of time forward but failing to hit the scoreboard.

Grade

So we lost the free kick count heavily
we lost the inside 50 count heavily
lost the clearance count heavily
lost the stoppage count heavily

and Martin was somewhat contained

Yet we lost by less than 5 goals. like our chances next time against Brisbane, even if we just improve the above counts to minor losses
