20 September 2021David Teague will join Richmond’s coaching ranks next season, following two and a half years in the top job at Carlton.
Teague, 40, will be an assistant coach at the Tigers from the 2022 season, bolstering senior coach Damien Hardwick’s coaching panel.
A former John Nicholls Medallist, as Carlton’s best and fairest during his playing days, Teague is now a highly credentialed coach with 14 years of experience.
Teague began his coaching journey as a 26-year-old with the Northern Bullants in 2008, departing for his first AFL assistant role at West Coast in 2010.
Teague looked after the Eagles’ defence for three seasons before crossing to St Kilda in 2014 and then to the Adelaide Football Club in 2015.
As Adelaide’s forward-line coach, Teague helped the sharp-shooting Crows play finals in three consecutive seasons, including a minor premiership and Grand Final appearance in 2017.
Following that year’s AFL Grand Final, Teague returned to Victoria to be an assistant coach at the Blues. He was appointed as the caretaker coach in June 2019 before assuming the permanent role in August.
Richmond General Manager- Football Performance, Tim Livingstone said Teague would be a great addition to the Club’s coaching department.
“David is a highly skilled and experienced coach who will be of great benefit to our players and his fellow coaches,” he added.
“We are excited to have David on board and welcome him and his family to the Richmond Football Club.”
Teague said he was excited about a fresh start at Richmond.
“Coaching is my passion, and I am excited by the opportunity to get to work with a new group of players and at a new club.
“I am looking forward to getting to work this pre-season and embracing the challenge that we all have, to climb the Tigers back up the ladder in 2022.
“It is great to be involved.”
