Gibcus’s vision, decision & execution here was rather lovely for a 197cm second gamer.

Was that Miller running from CHB to take the handball from Edwards and kick into the forward 50?

Two good efforts in the one play by our two young defenders.

Will that become a long term feature of our backline with those two?

I really liked the kick from Miller, after the great work down back from Gibcus.  More of this, thanks.
When a third gamer playing KPD takes the initiative to run through the middle & deliver so faultlessly to a leading forward, you know something is going right ...     :clapping

Actually think the dropped mark worked in our favour. If Aarts marks the GWS player wraps him up and he has to go back to take the kick. Allowing GWS to flood back

Yep and looked like he was out for a stroll while he did it. You get the sense this kid could have a serious boot on him if he wanted to go 60m.

Also what sensational vision. You often see kids take a while to adjust to the AFL pace but this boy is looking good in that sense.

Tiger breaks barrier: AFL Rookie Rankings

Mitch Keating
zerohanger.com
April 4, 2022 - 1:29PM

The weekend's action has seen the leaderboard of our Rookie Rankings take a new shape, with Tigers defender Josh Gibcus breaking into the top five as Saint Jack Hayes falls out of the frame.

4. Josh Gibcus (New)

The Tigers defender makes his debut in our rankings after another strong outing in Richmond's defence.

While his side wasn't able to come away with a win, Gibcus was resilient in his efforts throughout the loss to St Kilda - holding down a key role in the absence of Nick Vlastuin and Dylan Grimes, with the latter subbed out of the match.

Having earned an honourable mention for Round 2, Gibcus' past fortnight has seen the teenager shoot up our rankings thanks to his strong aerial abilities and ball movement out of defence.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick acknowledged Gibcus’ progress at the game’s highest level during his post-match press conference.

“He’ll get some good learnings out of it once again,” Hardwick said.

“He’s not shy. He will support the attack, which is a great asset to have.

“He’s got some areas that he can certainly improve on, but for a guy that’s played five games, he’s been a really good contributor for us.”

Kid is a gun. I also like Josh Ward at the Hawks. This draft shaping up to be special which augers well for us
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
