U18 Champs Div 1 2nd round webcast

Live Under 18 footy
5:36:10 PM Thu 22 June, 2006
Exclusive to afl.com.au

The AFL stars of the future will be on show on Wednesday 28 June when the second round of the NAB AFL Under 18 Division One Championships are televised live and exclusively though afl.com.au from Geelong's Skilled Stadium.

The live webcast will be made available free to all website users thanks to BigPond Broadband and will mark only the second time a match has been televised live through the official website of the Australian Football League.

AFL General Manager Game Development David Matthews said the opportunity to watch matches on afl.com.au was a bonus for all football supporters.

"This is the first time these matches have been available on afl.com.au and we are thrilled everyone has the opportunity to see the exciting talent at this level. The NAB AFL Under 18 Championships continue to highlight the stars of tomorrow and the proof is on AFL club lists. Nearly 70 percent of current AFL players have progressed through the championships," he said.

The Division One matches will start at 10am and then 12.30pm and will feature Victorian Metro, Victorian Country, South Australia and Western Australia. And the players on display will feature heavily at the NAB AFL National Draft later in November, with this year's bumper crop reportedly as good as the 2001 'super' draft that yielded superstars such as 2004 Brownlow medallist Chris Judd, Luke Ball and Luke Hodge.

The afl.com.au commentary team will be headlined by Peter Donegan with Andrew Maher and Jarrod Molloy. Special comments will be provided by the AFL's National Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan and the head coach of the AIS Academy team, Alan McConnell.

Users will be able to find links to the live webcast through the home page of afl.com.au from 9.30am.

National talent manager for the AFL, Kevin Sheahan, joined the Sport 927 crew in the studio with a look at this weekend’s Under 18 Championships. Kevin told the boys what young players they should keep an eye out for. This year’s draft is tipped to be very strong.
