Wonder if clubs sometimes deliberately pick duds like this bloke with late picks just to ensure thy keep up with compulsory list changes and make sure they'll have room down the track? :shh

I doubt that club a would be prepared to throw $200k/$300k away for no good reason. That's the sort of money a draftee would be on in total, for their 1st couple of years.

They're forced to pay 95% of the TPP so having a cheap bloke on the list also helps to pay the bigger contracts.

They're forced to pay that money regardless of who's in the spot.

If he doesn’t then we can keep turning the list over
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

What's the bet he's our sub, comes on with 5-10min to go in the 3rd quarter and we are already 60 points down. Get's dumped in a forward pocket and the ball goes nowhere near him.

Small forward grabs his opportunity

All it takes is a chance. Steely Green took his chance on Sunday. The West Australian has been forced to bide his time in the VFL this season, but after being rewarded with a third appearance, Green showed he can play a role in the rebuild at Punt Road. The 20-year-old kicked three goals in a classy performance at the MCG, putting his hand up to stay in the team in the closing weeks of the season.

Steely Green Re-Signed for 2025

Green and Gray to remain in Yellow and Black

Steely Green and Campbell Gray have signed on for the 2025 season with Richmond.

By Richmond Media
Just now

Richmond youngsters Steely Green and Campbell Gray have committed to the Club for the 2025 season, putting pen to paper on fresh contracts.

Green, 20, broke through for his AFL debut this season and showed promise across six senior games, notably after he returned to the lineup for four consecutive appearances from Round 19.

Steely Green speaks with Richmond Media following the news he has signed an extension with the Tigers.

The former no. 55 pick in the 2022 AFL National Draft earned his recall after hauls of five and then two goals at VFL level.

Green then booted three majors in his return AFL match against the Giants and continued his strong form with a career-high 13 disposals and five inside 50s against Port Adelaide the following week.

An ankle and toe injury then ended the 20-year-old season prematurely.

Gray, 21, joined the Club in May with the 16th pick in the Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

The 195cm utility booted 10 majors from VFL matches with the Club, including a best-on-ground performance against Carlton in Round 14.

Gray, who played local football just last year, had five marks and booted four goals in that display against the Blues before he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in the dying stages.

Richmond General Manager, Football Talent Blair Hartley said both players showed significant development throughout 2024.

“Steely hit some really strong form in the second half of this season and was rewarded with a run of senior-level games, which will hold him in great stead going forward,” he added.

“Across his six games, he showed that he can match it at AFL level and has traits that can make us a better team.

“Campbell is a great character who has worked incredibly hard since joining our football program mid-year.

“His versatility gives our coaching staff plenty of options, and we look forward to him continuing to develop as a player in 2025.

“Both players should take great confidence into the pre-season, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow next season.”
