List seems to keep getting bigger and bigger.

There’s only 3 unavailable to play this weekend.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

I counted 5 unavailable, 2 possibles pending training, 2 available for limited minutes.

I’m not counting the last 3 as they aren’t in best 22, I reckon Pickett will be cherry ripe for r1.

Is it worth just amputating that toe of Graham's at this point? Wasn't that the little piggy that kept him grounded last season?

It's not that simple. Losing a toe would affect his balance.

Robbie Tarrant, hip

"Robbie is managing some hip symptoms and is unavailable in the short term."
If Tarrant misses round 1 then who replaces him?

Miller can play in defence but we'd prefer to us him as 2nd ruck especially if De Koning plays for the Blues. Balta would have to McKay. So we either play undersized with Grimes on Curnow or see if a debutant like Young can swim and not sink  :-\.

If Lynch, Tarrant and Gibcus are all injured for R1 I'd be quite worried tbh.

Jack will get a bath from the Carlton backline at his age and we would be left with an undersized backline ourselves against McKay.

Lynch will play round 1 unless he picks up an injury on Saturday. Tarrant is the worry if the hip isn't just some minor thing that will clear up in a week. As we know from past experience, the Club saying it's a "short-term" thing doesn't necessarily mean it is  :-\.

Broad is the same height and weight as Curnow.
Miller can pinch hit back there if need be.
I don’t think playing without Tarrant is catastrophic

Jack Ross will be unavailable for the short-term after suffering a medial ligament strain in his left knee at training on Thursday morning.

Broad is considerably lighter, and that's after Curnow lost weight over summer. He had nearly 10kg on broad last year and it's about half that now still.

Not saying it's a catastrophe without Tarrant but Grimes wasn't great last year, coming off a hammy, Balta not amazing either but probably our only realistic option for McKay. If either of their guys have a good night there will be precious little options to move the magnets etc.

Miller has looked consistently better as a ruck/forward IMO but agree is an option.

Also further to my point about Lynch, if he's not out there then Jack will get toweled up comfortably IMO. But he seems likely to play.

Scans have revealed Jayden Short has a left calf strain.

Short’s availability for Round 1 will be assessed closer to next Thursday’s season opener.

Been a nightmare preseason injuries me personally. I don't think the club invested enough in getting the right people on board.
