Footage from 7news and 9news tonight showing Prestia, Short and Jack going in for scans earlier today.

7news: Go to 0:55 min mark: https://twitter.com/7NewsMelbourne/status/1632649390757416960

Jack says we're going to manage our list this year. So, expect our veterans to be rotated in and out of the side at times to get them through the year.

Short has a slight calf strain. "Race to be ready for round 1"
"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

looks like the medical department have picked up where they left off.

Burge 2ic steps into the role and is off to a flyer.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Agree. Was always sceptical just appointing the number 2 from the past regime in to the lead role, but as others pointed out some very talented people are often stuck working under the less talented.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now but geez it’s a poor start with all the strains we’ve already had.

It was a arse decision to appoint the 2IC of a team that had a woeful record in 2021 and 2022.   You pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Which injuries in particular are we blaming S & C staff for?

Prestia's pec? Tarrant's degenerative hip? Baker's appendix? Graham's turf toe? Lynch's plantar fasciitis?

Really, it doesn't make sense to point the finger at fitness staff whenever there are a few injuries. It is a high velocity contact sport. Injuries happen. Get over it.

Probably more the hammies and calves. These are usually dependent on age, strength and conditioning.

Hips aren't soft tissue.
Pec is load dependent, bit of luck, maybe a small argument for A&C.
Appendix happens to several of us eventually.
Turf toe and PF are also load related injuries to ligaments.

Yeah if we are falling apart through repeated soft tissue injuries then it's concerning, but if it's wear and tear related to a contact sport then that's just the luck of the draw. Sometimes great teams get crappy injury runs and that's the season done and dusted.

We're also an older list than we were five years ago (more prone on average to repeat injuries) and they're going to be cautious during pre-season and the early rounds. Honestly I think it's just time for some younger bodies.

Too early to point the finger at the S&C department just yet for mine.

Don’t we have 3 hammies?
The whole season is starting to resemble 2021 - from the soft tissue injuries to the lack of defensive pressure all over the game and the stupid lack of discipline leading to dumb frees and 50 metres concededd
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Injury Report: March 8, 2023

Latest injury update from Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan ahead of Richmond's season opener against Carlton next Thursday.

Dion Prestia, pectoral

"He's pulled up quite well actually. We're hoping to get him involved in a couple of sessions leading up to next Thursday night. At the moment, things are looking really positive. He has a couple of sessions to get through, but we're hopeful that he's okay."

Jayden Short, calf

"(He's) probably not as likely, but again, there's a fair bit of time still to go and a main training session next Tuesday, so he would have to be a part of that. But at this stage, he's maybe unlikely (for Round 1)."

Josh Gibcus, hamstring

"Unfortunately, Josh has had a few issues with his wound from (hamstring) surgery (in January). He's had an infection there and it's been a bit of a nasty one, so he's been laying low while that gets right. He's going to be back in the program the next few days and he'll resume his rehab program."

Jack Ross, knee

"Unfortunately, Jack hurt himself in the last session before the Melbourne game. Things have improved quite a lot since then and similar to Dion, we're hoping that he'll improve a lot and be able to train (in the main session) next Tuesday and be available, but (he's) probable at this stage."

Jack Graham, toe

"Jack's done a mountain of work the last four to six weeks. He's going to be available for some game time next week. He almost played on the weekend, but it was just a last-minute decision that we decided we would get more out of a session than playing some game time, but all things are positive with Jack."

Marlion Pickett, adductor

"Marlion's chipping away at his fitness for next week. At this stage, he's probable for next week, but we'll make more of a call next week when we have our main session."

Tom Lynch, foot

"(He pulled up) really well (from playing three quarters on Saturday). Tom's a pro, he's worked really hard the last few weeks... He'll fully train going into Round 1."

Robbie Tarrant, hip

"He's going to get involved with some football on Sunday in our session, and he'll chip away at that. He's probably a couple of weeks away (from playing games), but things are looking better with Robbie."

Jacob Bauer, ankle

"Jacob's commenced running outside in a straight line. He's going okay, things are on track for him to resume in the next few weeks."

Kaleb Smith, foot

"Kaleb's really good, all his indicators have come good. He's out of the moon boot and he's going to resume some AlterG running tomorrow. After that, we'll progress to outside and see how we go."

Tom Brown, wrist

"Tom's got a minor fracture in his wrist. He's going to participate in non-contact football skills. He's probably four to six weeks away from being able to have some contact. We'll keep him nice and fit between now and then and he'll be ready to go then."

Mate Colina, back

"He's progressing well. He'll be looking to resume football skills in the next four to six weeks."

Prestia shouldn't play, nor should Ross, Tarrant and anyone else who has a question mark

Short won't be right either.

Gibcus sounds like he should be looking at missing the first month or two at this stage.
