The entire tribe still lives there but I haven't been back in yonks. Looked up on Google street view the house my old man grew up in (which was a part of the old Kiewa police station that my pop bought and moved in the 50s or 60s) Baranduda and can't believe it's still there.

All Ma Powell's family is up there, scattered around Albury, Wodonga, Tallangatta, Granya, Howlong and Wymah

We only get up there a couple of times a year to see the rels but I still love going to Granya (Ma Powell's hometown) and seeing the old houses/buildings that are still standing and remembering the stories she'd tell us. They've actually turned the old school into a museum and it has alot of photos of Ma Powell and her family

I would assume the reason is Yackandandah Bush Nursing Hospital Obstetrics unit is was not quite state of the art during the period of the great mans birth.

I would wager both the conception and child hood of josh Kennedy was in yack.

HISTORY-maker Daniel De Silva proved Australia's inspiration as the Young Socceroos opened their U20 World Cup account with a promising 1-1 draw with Colombia.

In a bright night for Australian football, the 16-year-old Perth Glory midfielder was outstanding throughout and scored just after half time although Australia was a denied three points by Jhon Cordoba's 78th minute equaliser.

The youngest player in the tournament, De Silva also overtook Craig Moore as Australia's youngest U20 World Cup debutant, almost a year younger than when the defender featured in the 1993 tournament.

But he settled in a heartbeat, starring in the attacking midfield role with Australia unlucky not to take all three points at Trabzon's Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium.

Coach Paul Okon heaped praise on De Silva and the team but was lamenting the fact the Young Socceroos didn't clinch three points.

"When you think he (De Silva) is 16 and giving four years away it's crazy. If he scored a second goal (he missed a chance at 1-0) I'd love him even more," Okon said.

"Everyone performed and we spoke about that. We said if anyone wasn't up for it's going to make it hard but everyone played their role.

"The message since we came here was if we play the way we believe we'll have a good chance of winning any game against any opposition.

"Maybe it was a fair result in the end but we had two very good chances at 1-0 so disappointed with that but the performance was extraordinary and we hope we can reach that level again for the next two games."

Starting with nine A-League players, the Young Socceroos were outstanding for much of the game and finished with 52 per cent possession against the South American champions.

Australia had the first genuine chance of the game but Josh Brillante toe-poked wide after 16 minutes after a brilliant build up that included De Silva and Adam Taggart.

Two minutes later Connor Pain looked set to score when he attacked Brillante's inch-perfect cross only to be put off by Helibelton Palacios' last-ditch challenge.

But led by the immensely talented attacker Juan Quintero, Colombia was always a scoring threat but keeper Paul Izzo stood firm with his best save coming in the 39th minute when he tipped his free kick over the bar.

But a minute after the re-start Andrew Hoole released De Silva with a clever pass in behind the Colombian defence and he chipped keeper Cristian Bonilla who did get a finger on it.

De Silva had a chance to double the lead on 60 minutes after Connor Pain's cross was poorly cleared but he didn't get enough purchase on his strike.

But with Quintero forcing Australia on the back foot he commenced a nice interplay which finished with Cordoba's control and shot from inside the area.

The Young Socceroos will now fancy their chances against El Salvador on Wednesday morning after they lost 3-0 to hosts Turkey.
