I just saw replays of Grella's so called tackle where he leapt both feet/studs first in the air at the kiwi player's legs. That was a disgrace and should have been straight red card. You break legs doing that sort of crap.

The Australian National Team is stuffed going forward! The Old NSL players developed by the wog clubs who are no longer wanted in the sport will be retired or be finished as players.

Schwarzer, Galekovic, Chipperfield, Carney, Beauchamp, Milligan, Grella, Bresciano, Emerton and Kennedy just to name a few. LOL.

The A League will finish the Australian National Team, the clubs in the A League arent developing decent players and they certainly are not producing Emerton, Bresciano, Grella or Schwarzer types although in terms of GK I like Mitch Langerak and hes only good because he has been influence to become a champion because he has worn the South Melbourne shirt. The rest of the youngsters are rubbish except for Rukuvytsa whose a good player and who has the correct characteristics of being a successful soccer player ie. He plays like South Melbourne player would  ;D

When the NSL was around we didn't qualify for the WC for 32 years  :wallywink. Add to that junior development is still basically left in the hands of the state league (old NSL) clubs. The FFA aren't like the AFL in controlling and running the whole sport and running an Auskick equivalent. AFAIK it's up to the individual Soccer clubs themselves if they introduce things such as 5 or 6-a-side games and state Soccer federations still have a lot of say.

We're like many other minnow Soccer countries. Once in a while we get a golden generation (1974, 2006) then it peters out. With 4 football codes to supply footballers to all codes have to work hard to find players. In 2009 the only code to increase participation numbers was Aussie Rules and most of those were kids in Auskick.

LOL

Australia got to the last world cup and this one based on NSL players- the A League hasnt produced anyone. Its a disgrace. Lastly Australia always had to beat a South American team in the past to reach the world cup, now they just have to beat Bangladesh lol ... and sadly- they wont even be able to beat them shortly. The performance against NZ was a disgrace- the end is nigh for the Socceroos and the FFA and the A League. All the clubs are broke and no one is producing any players- and the New regime has already had 6 years lol.

I didn't realise Iran/Kuwait ('77), NZ ('81), Scotland ('85), Israel ('89), Iran ('97) were South American countries  :lol  :wallywink.

If we had beaten Israel in Sydney in 1989 we would have then played Colombia over two legs for qualification for Italia 90. If A League was that good the there would be a few players from there in the starting 11 not just a sprinkling in the squad. Will struggle in the Asian Championships next year if the veterans in the WC squad retire as there is no one in the A League credentialled enough to take their place.

To make matters worse Pim has taken 3 strikers and ironically Tommy Oar the best player from the A League in the squad won't even make the final 23. Long road ahead.

That's why Borussia Dortmund paid a good price for Mitch Langerak and why Tommy Oar, Michael Zullo and Adam Sarota are off to Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie  :wallywink. Ramps the reason the Socceroo talent is thinning out is because like the draft in the AFL you pay now for neglecting kids 5-10 years ago. The NSL and Soccer Australia in the last years of its existence 2000-2004 was a broke basketcase.

Don't forget as well as not beating Israel in that campaign we lost to Fiji in Fiji  :help and then lost to NZ in Auckland  :P. Some here let's calls them Ramps  ;D have a nostalgic view of the old NSL when the reality was Australian players and the Socceroos team back then were crap.

Good on the Matildas on winning the Asian Cup  :clapping.

Kennedy scored the winner for the Socceroos in the WC warm-up match tonight (well technically last night now as it's after midnight). Not pretty but another game where the job gets done.

Australia  1
Denmark  0

SOCCEROOS coach Pim Verbeek has cut five players - Rhys Williams, Shane Lowry, Tommy Oar, James Holland and Eugene Galekovic - from his final World Cup squad named on Wednesday.

Verbeek said Middlesbrough defender Williams had an injury and would immediately return home to England.

The 23-man Australian squad for the tournament starting later this month is:

Goalkeepers: Mark Schwarzer, Adam Federici, Brad Jones.

Defenders: Scott Chipperfield, David Carney, Lucas Neill, Michael Beauchamp, Craig Moore, Mark Milligan, Luke Wilkshire.

Midfielders: Vince Grella, Carl Valeri, Jason Culina, Mile Jedinak, Tim Cahill, Brett Holman, Dario Vidosic, Mark Bresciano, Brett Emerton, Richard Garcia.

Strikers: Nikita Rukavytsya, Josh Kennedy, Harry Kewell.

I only rate Langerak and Rukuvytsa from the youngsters. The rest are average. 80%+ of the squad chosen by the coach for the world cup were developed by NSL clubs- FACT!
