VFL Tiger Trezise recruited in Mid-Season Draft

By Richmond Media
31 May 2023

Richmond has used its second selection in the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft (No. 13 overall) to recruit 20-year-old rebounding defender James Trezise from Richmond VFL.

Trezise has made an immediate impact in his short time at Tigerland within the VFL program. Playing in all eight games so far this season, the exciting left-footer has demonstrated his raw talent across a number of positions.

Recruited from: Richmond VFL
Position: Rebounding defender
Height: 188cm
Weight: 76kg
DOB: 15/6/2002

What the Richmond recruiters say about Trezise...

"Originally recruited from Tooradin-Dalmore FC in the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition, James joined Richmond VFL for the first time this season having never previously been in a state league program or elite junior program. In such a short amount of time, his dedication to his football has been second to none and consequentially his improvement has been rapid.

"His competitiveness, defensive intent and big vertical power has seen him used across a number of positions in his eight VFL games this season. He has predominantly settled as a back, averaging 16 disposals, five marks and five tackles including a 29 disposal, 10 mark game against Geelong in Round 8.

"At only 20 years old with enormous upside, we are incredibly excited to bring James into the club in a full-time capacity, an opportunity he thoroughly deserves."

13. Richmond - James Trezise
Defender
Richmond VFL
188cm/76kg
15/6/02

Trezise's versatility has allowed him to play a number of different roles through the start of the Tigers' VFL season. He turns 21 this month and featured in Tooradin's premiership side in the Gippsland competition last year before winning a chance at Richmond. Trezise's size has made him an appealing prospect for clubs as his height allows him to intercept in the back half as well as push up the ground.
