Plenty of recruiters walked away from Liam Fawcett's 6.1, 22 disposal and 218 SuperCoach game against West Adelaide thinking he was bound for the first round. But Fawcett has found his way to Richmond at pick 43, where he will learn under Tom Lynch. Think Brody Mihocek.

At least he addresses a need. We’ll see I guess.

He only addresses a need if he any good and becomes a good player. He is just one we need more to give us a better chance of finding a player.

Well yeah, that kinda goes without saying.

Liam's a 197cm key forward and we really loved his workrate. Just his ability to keep at it, keep working, gets up the ground and he can mark it as a real conduit key forward… he's got really nice hands and he's kicked some goals as well."

MATT CLARKE ON …

PICK 43 - LIAM FAWCETT (Key fwd)

“In round 1 this year our Perth-based scout and I went to Adelaide. He went to Centrals to watch Fawcett while I was tracking a young boy named Matt Coulthard at a different ground for the mid-season draft. The cameraman didn’t turn up to Liam Fawcett’s standout game, where he had 14 marks and six or seven contested. (The scout) rang me and said, ‘Mate, he is dominating this game and there’s no cameraman. He was sick and didn’t turn up’. A number of clubs saw it, but probably five or six full-timers. Everyone talks about the great game he played that there’s no vision of.”

Well yeah, that kinda goes without saying.

Was only coming from the view that he is pick 43 and what expectations should be placed on him and the list.
We need more than just pick 43 to address our needs. We just cannot sit back and say  hey we got a kpf problem solved.
Until any of them prove themselves we still have the need. Taking just one kpf is not going to address our kpf needs.

In Fairness to the club they did try to get pick 30 and go up the draft. Also they only used the two picks and at least with them addressed our two biggest weaknesses in getting a kpf and a big ball winning mid. Where we have taken them though suggests we need more. It will take forever to build a list good enough to challenge useing mostly picks above forty while hardly participating in f/a rookie drafts and trading for players.
