Hamstrings can are fixed by kids being in an elite strength and conditioning program. Understand ours currently has a asterisk but we made an early statement flicking flukey lukey and so we should back ourselves and our program to get kids bodies fixed. Junior programs are just that. Bodies - young and growing can get exposed in those systems but that shouldn’t ever influence our decision to draft.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

9️⃣ - Harry Armstrong

Is the Sandringham Dragons forward the best tall in this year's draft crop?

Clubs are bracing for as many as 27 players to be taken in the first round of the national draft as teams jockey for top-end selections in a strong pool.

A combination of free agency compensation, father-son selections and academy picks will cause the first night of the draft to balloon out for consecutive seasons.

Your club's draft picks as of October 13, 2024:

Adelaide: 4, 46, 64
Brisbane: 32, 34, 42, 43, 45, 60, 66
Carlton: 12, 14, 69, 72, 73
Collingwood: 36, 52, 55
Essendon: 9, 31
Fremantle: 10, 11, 18, 30, 67
Geelong: 17, 38, 57, 75
Gold Coast: 6, 13, 23, 29, 41, 50, 78
Greater Western Sydney: 15, 16, 21, 37, 53, 56, 74
Hawthorn: 33, 71, 77
Melbourne: 5, 28, 40, 49, 54, 65
North Melbourne: 2, 25, 44, 62
Port Adelaide: 39, 58
Richmond: 1, 20, 24, 51, 61, 70, 76
St Kilda: 7, 8, 27, 47
Sydney: 19, 22, 59
West Coast: 3, 26, 63, 68
Western Bulldogs: 35, 48

Agree, however we may be lucky in that with so many high draft picks, is our Pick 1 struggles could be papered over the fact other picks shine.

You just don't want to pick a kid who has an interrupted pre season. Has the pressure of playing round 1 and being behind the 8 ball.

Where as you can pick a Smith or FOS and get an excellent player who may not become best player in comp but is a locked in at worst mild successful pick 1.

I think Lalor becomes the best player in draft, weirdly I think he has a better chance of that at pick 6 than at Pick 1 and with all the media rubbish that comes with it.

AT's boy:

#EXCLUSIVE: The wait is almost over for this year's draft hopefuls with clubs fighting their way up the order in the final days of the trade period.

Jagga Smith is projected to be pick one, and the 18-year-old is ready to handle the pressure.

"Jagga Smith, Finn O'Sullivan, Josh Smillie and Sid Draper have the runs on the board to be the number one pick from my perspective, it could be any one of these guys."

- Shifter Sheehan can't even split the contenders for Pick 1 this year.

"It looks a really strong 25 this year. If you're Richmond, you're not picking five midfielders, so they have an ability to take 3 mids and maybe a few key position players. There will be a lot of different combinations. Harry Armstrong and Jobe Shanahan are the two tall forwards who could go very early."

No sh.... Shifter.
You just know that we will take a player or 2 that no one thinks we will. Happens every year.

So we’ll have:
1, 6, 10, 11, 14, 20, 23, 24, 51, 61, 70, 76

Or thereabouts atleast depending on whether we throw any of the late picks (51-76) back to Gold Coast in the Rioli trade and whether we blink and accept 18 instead of 11 for Bolton.

In any case it looks like we’ll have 6 top20 picks. I’d be looking to trade every pick after that into 2025 picks. Surely 6 National Draft Picks would be the limit to leave enough for pre season and rookie drafts, SSP selections and mid season draft pickups.

Id still value pick 23 and 24 especially as they are early round 2 which is on 2nd night of drafting and can pick up absolute steals over night who were over looked.
