Injury Report: Round 20, 2024

By Richmond Media

Get the latest injury update from Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan ahead of Sunday's Round 20 clash with Collingwood at the MCG.

Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan provides an injury update ahead of our Round 20 match against Collingwood thanks to nib.

Tim Taranto, concussion

"All signs are looking good at the moment. He trained today (Tuesday), he needs to pass his test on Thursday, but all signs are good at the moment for him to return (on Sunday)."

Nick Vlastuin, back

"Nick's been managing his back pretty much for the whole season. It just got to the point where we thought a week off would really benefit him to finish the year strongly. He trained really strongly today and he'll be available this week."

Dustin Martin, back

"He's obviously been battling his back for a couple of weeks. He hasn't been able to do much training in that time. He trained really strongly today, he'll train strongly again Thursday, and we'll make a call then as to whether he's available this week."

Maurice Rioli, ankle

"(He's tracking) really well. He's been training for a couple of weeks, he'll train strongly on Thursday and we'll make a decision whether we play him this week or wait until after the (VFL) bye."

Marlion Pickett, calf

"Same boat for Marlion (as Rioli). He trained really strongly today. He'll need to train the same way on Thursday and we'll make a call whether he's available."

Jack Graham, hip

"He's just taken a little bit of time to get himself right, Jack. We're probably, at this stage, thinking it'd be more like next week (Round 21) against North Melbourne (for his return)."

Tom Lynch, hamstring

"So, Tom's obviously been battling (with his) hamstring the last few weeks. As all Richmond fans know, he hasn't played a lot of footy the last couple of years, and as a consequence (of that) as well, hasn't done a pre-season for three years now. So, what we need to do from this point to the end of the year, is make a really smart decision with Tom. We'll get him back into training in the next couple of weeks and we'll make a call then."

Toby Nankervis, concussion

"He's okay, Toby. He's frustrated that he's not training, he loves to be out there the boys. Hopefully he'll recover this week and we'll see him next week."

Oliver Hayes-Brown, concussion

"Ollie's in the same boat (as Nankervis). He's doing really well and we'll see him next week."

Jack Ross, foot

"Rossy's really good, we had him him out at training today, it was really good to see him there. He's flying around the track looking good, and at this stage we're looking at some game time after the VFL bye, which is next week."

Liam Fawcett, back

"Today was actually Liam's first full session since January, so it was great to see big Liam running around. At this stage, we're looking at him also playing some game time after the VFL bye next week, which is exciting."

Campbell Gray, hamstring

"Campbell's obviously coming from a long way back, being in local footy last year. So, we're gonna use this period now to really work on developing him as an athlete and we're hoping to see him, if the VFL team qualify for finals, around that time."

Mate Colina, back

"Mate's obviously dealing with a really stubborn back issue. He has a specialist appointment in a couple of weeks and we'll have more information then."

Dylan Grimes, back

"From all reports (he's) okay, he's up and about walking around (after surgery). We're really hoping to see him at the Club over the next week or so. It would be good to see his face."

Judson Clarke, knee

"Juddy had a big milestone on Saturday and started running, which was really exciting. It's important to celebrate those things on these long-term rehabs. So, Saturday was great for Juddy."

Josh Gibcus, knee

"Josh is going really well. He's ticking off some major strength milestones in the gym and we're hoping to see him out running very soon."

If Tom Lynch plays again this season the whole club should fold.

..I know that Jack Graham is favourite whipping boy for a number of people on this site

But I am really interested in what people think this means..

"He's just taken a little bit of time to get himself right, Jack."

It is truly a bizarre comment; it makes little sense and puts all the onus on the player

I have a view but I am just wondering what peoples reaction was when they read it

No reaction
He isn’t as fit as he can get .. it’s visibly obvious
He’s probably wanting to get back to SA anyway .. just got to hope one of them will take him

What I want to know is this

How can someone that runs as slowly as Jack keep pinging muscles

He’s hardly going like Usain Bolt

He’s the reason the afl no longer publish the weight of players
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

It’s actually because the worlds gone full scale soft

I’d describe it as wacko , but we can’t use that word

I’m also a bit worried about the backlash if we dare mentioned any Richmond player was on the fat side .. especially the ladies team , where the “political correctness” is a bit stricter

Yet some on here wonder why people aren't rocking up to games. When I can I'm there but I totally understand why some don't. We have been taken for fools with this whole magic hands fiasco, and we receive nothing from the club.

This is also why Yze is being questioned. Is he too soft? Time will tell, but he won't last long if he lets these amateurs like Meehan tear the place apart.

I reckon unfit or unprofessional are better words anyway because they point to the cause of the problem as opposed to the outcome.

Thanks to those who didn't answer the question and rather made it another reason to pot their favourite whipping boy

And thanks Andyy for actually answering without the need to pot

FWIW I don't agree with this not publishing weights anymore. Reason being for some blokes if we saw the weights this inference that a penalty.ayer is "fat" would be blown out of the water. Why? Because if the weight and height of a bloke that is getting potted is the same as a star of the competition then the argument about being fat falls over.

Genuine problem with your entire point WP

Muscle is far heavier than fat
