He doesn't avg 6 goals a game. He's a defender. Comes with big wraps. May be best 22 already if we can send Balta fwd.

Yeah, those 'average' stats are wrong. I've deleted them.

Chris Toce interviewed about Jacob Blight on the AFL live stream:

- Been following him for a couple of years.
- Progressed and improved over the past two years.
- Big strong lad, endurance and strength.
- Could play AFL soon but no pressure on him. Want him to come in and play solid VFL.
- Picked for the long term - not because current needs.

He's a defender, not a forward?

Blight becomes a Tiger in Mid-Season Rookie Draft

Richmond has used its first selection in the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft (pick No. 2) to recruit intercepting defender Jacob Blight from Peel Thunder.

Recruited from: Peel Thunder
Position: Intercepting defender
Height: 196cm
DOB: 14/12/2001

What the Richmond recruiters say about Blight...

"He’s a consistent, competitive player whose strength lies in his defensive and aerial game. He recently had a strong performance in the WAFL v SANFL State Game at Optus Stadium, in which he took seven intercept marks and had 17 disposals. He is a super professional character, who has worked extremely hard to continue to improve and develop, and we are extremely delighted to give him this opportunity."

Broad(WA), Baker(WA), Bolton(WA), Blight(WA)

Beginning to sense a pattern here..... :shh

Jacob Blight, 22, has averaged 18.4 disposals, 8.7 marks, 3.3 intercept marks, and 4.6 spoils per game this season, playing as a key defender for WAFL club Peel Thunder.

The 196cm defender stood out to Richmond recruiters with his professionalism, consistency, strong defensive game, and aerial ability.

Richmond National Recruiting Manager Chris Toce said the Club had put a lot of work into both players and was “really happy” with the outcome.

“Jacob is someone we have watched for a number of years, and Campbell surfaced at the beginning of the year and really caught our eye,” he explained.

“Our mindset is that we are picking players to help us in the long term, and we believe in both lads and are really hopeful that they can play a part in the long term.”

Toce described key defender Blight as a great story of persistence.

“Jacob has progressed and improved a lot, especially over the last two years- which is a credit to him.

“He presents like a pro, is a big strong lad, has terrific endurance and strength and physically could play AFL pretty soon… (but) there is no pressure on him do that.

“We just want him to come in and play some good VFL football, to begin with, and if his form dictates that he could progress to AFL level, that would be fantastic.”
