How did we all rate 2024 trade week?
« on: October 17, 2024, 06:37:31 PM »
Richmond

Draft picks: 1, 6, 10, 11, 18, 20, 23, 24

Traded in:

Traded out: Liam Baker, Shai Bolton, Jack Graham (FA), Daniel Rioli

List changes: Dylan Grimes (ret), Dustin Martin (ret), Marlion Pickett (ret), Sam Naismith (ret)

Verdict: On face value, losing four of your better players looks like a trade disaster. But the Tigers, fresh off the wooden spoon, are firmly in rebuild mode and these trades should accelerate that. While it will be tough for fans to see Baker, Bolton and Rioli depart, the club is now armed with eight picks inside the top 24 in this year’s super draft, which should set them up for future success.

Rating: 9/10

RICHMOND

Leigh Montagna says: “I think they can do really nicely out of it if they just sit and hold tight. With that many picks, they can balance it out – they can get the best mids early, some key forwards, key defenders and really have a nice balance that they can build on in the next three to four years.”

David King says: “I’ll be surprised if they take that patch of current draft picks into this draft … (they could) stack over two years, rather than take the gamble on this draft being absolutely nailed.”

Sarah Jones says: “They’ve lost three out of their top five in the best-and-fairest, so it’s going to be tough going for a little while there.”

8/10 for me

Didn’t really like this one (gave up one pick too many)

10. Brisbane trade its 2024 Round 1 selection (currently 20) to Richmond for two 2024 Round 2 selections (currently 32 and 42) and two 2024 Round 3 selections (currently 43 and 45) in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft.

Think we achieved what we ste put to achieve

Would have liked to to see us trade in a player from another Club just to see the reaction and discussion  :rollin

I think we did exactly what we planned for - to hit the draft hard!  On that front our trade week was a massive success!  So glad we didn't trade for some half arsed retread with a bung head (Oliver ... Stringer ... the list goes on ...).
Having traded out players to collect draft picks the next part of the plan comes soon.  Who we draft with this haul of first round picks will make or break our approach to trade week.
Please no retreads ... a haul of young guns will make me very happy!       :thumbsup

I'll say a 10/10.

I can't think of a better trade window for where we are at apart from 2016 window when we got Nank, Caddy and Prestia. Could argue FA when we got Lynch. But I am ecstatic at the result.

Simply put Baker, Rioli and Bolton don't see success with us if we successfully rebuild and win a flag in 6 years. Hawks have done it very quickly, yet last time they played finals was a failed 2018 attempt, similar to our 2021. So 6 years on they made finals and may win a flag in next 2-3 years. That's getting close to 10 years from 2018-2028. Meaning our next window can be expected to be 2031 onwards.

In 2031 the 6 first rounders we have on our list will be 24 years old. Bolton Bakes and Rioli will all be retired. Meaning shifting our currency of these players worth into elite 18yo was absolutely imperative to becoming the best again. The alternative is keeping them and being an Essendon for next 10 years.

All the deals look to be successful for what they were worth. Bolton maybe the only one we could have isolated picks 10, 11 but the difference is pick 14 vs pick 18.

I'm very very happy, first part of the job is done for rebuild the next is nailing these picks with 2 elite mids, 2 best key forwards and some running half backs to compliment the Balta, Gibcus spine.

Go you bloody Tigers.
Go Tigers!

RFC invest in the draft, its a proven formula to provide a premiership base.
2024, 2025 & 2026 hit the draft.
Development in 2027 + 2028.
Trade & Free Agency for top-up need in 2028/29.
Top 4 in 2029.
Top 2 in 2030.

Plan & Execute because premierships are bloody hard to win.

9.5 / 10 .

Draft night is going to be like the best Christmas ever .

If we nail 5 of the 8 picks - we could set ourselves up for an exciting future.

Best time to rebuild before Tassie gets all the best talent.

I'd say a 10/10.

What we need is a great development department too.  :gotigers

Blair has already said the goal was to get as many first round picks we can. Now i hope we hang onto what we have.

On how i rate his performance.
i gave him a seven.

No major stuff ups but the bundled pick scenario to Brisvegas was a fail imo.
Bolton imo well we needed  a top 5 pick for him i know difficult when the player nominates a club. For me 10 and 11 are unders but okay.
Baker was slight overs and in the ball park

Rioli was about the norm 6 in particular made the trade palatable. 6 and 23 was always going to be about right.

So how to you get to 10/10?

Give less points to Brisbane for P20 / retain 32? Would have been nice but you can bet your nuts other clubs were bidding and we did what we had to, to get that P20. I'm not convinced we could have done a huge amount better here.

Bolton I'd have liked 10 + 11 alone, but we got it done by sliding 14 to 18. Not really that much of a fail except that you think we got unders.

Baker slightly overs we both agree.

Rioli about right we both agree.
