Best 23 in 2025?
« on: October 27, 2024, 07:48:16 PM »
Richmond's Best 23 next year according to Foxsports:

WE SAY: The first thing worth noting with Richmond’s listed 23 above, is that it will almost certainly have a number of new draftees that find their way into the team come Round 1 — including the No. 1 pick. As we already know, the quartet of Jack Graham, Liam Baker, Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton hurts their depth significantly; not to mention all of their premiership experience. That said, Punt Road have well and truly committed to a rebuild given their draft hand this off-season, which will hopefully bring the club plenty of much-needed energy. The likes of Kane McAuliffe, Judson Clarke and Jacob Blight will all be hoping to start the season in the senior side, having been exposed at various points in 2024. McAuliffe and Clarke just missed out, while Tom Brown got the start ahead of the uncontracted Kamdyn McIntosh. We also went for Mykelti Lefau — who’ll be returning from an ACL rupture — over Jacob Koschitzke, despite the latter’s solid finish to the 2024 season. A healthy year out of Tom Lynch will clearly make a world of difference, so too Tim Taranto, Dion Prestia and Jacob Hopper, while Josh Gibcus returns from an ACL injury.

This is redundant given we’ll have a handful of draftees lining up

Will we though?. Have a look at our recruiting the last 5 or 6 seasons and we just tragically lost the bloke who was to fix this up.

Good lord man, it’s like you just pick a day each week where you come through and just post negative comments on 5-10 threads.

It’s the off-season, we’ve got a draft coming up with our best hand in many years. can you not let the rest of us be optimistic without calling us idiots or yes men or blinded by our Richmond coloured goggles.

I have Lefau, Nankervis, Hopper, ,Lynch and Prestia playing only about half the year before they are injured. So there will be plenty of spots for kids.

For me, it’s not about playing our best 23 each week, it’s about playing who we think will be in our best 23 in 12-24 months time.

Hotton won't be ready for round 1. Did his ACL in May, 12 month recovery so won't see him to mid season. Which is the right approach IMHO

Ditto, Mykelti.... for anyone thinking he might be a show for round 1.

Yep but with Hotton still out ACL, let's chuck him on ground and make Sonsie the sub.

It was a work of art, you know what they say about imitation…..
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Broad. Balta. Vlastuin. Gibcus. Brown. Trainor. Short.

I like the look of the backline.

Hopefully short can pull the finger out. Gibcus has got to be due some luck.

Replacing the run of Rioli might be a problem. There are apparently rumors of Clarke going back when he gets fit and banks might be an option?

Personally I am not that high on young and I think miller is better as depth

Key Backs:
Balta, Gibcus, Trainor, Miller, Blight, Young
Med Sized Backs:
Broad, Vlastiun, Brown
Running Backs:
Short, Banks, Trecize, Banks

Contested Mids
Taranto, Hopper, Lalor, Smillie, McAullife, Dow
Outside Mids:
Prestia, Ross (both a bit contested), HRS, Sonsie, Hotton, McInstosh

Small Forwards
M.Rioli, Clarke, Campbell, Alger, Green
Medium Fwds
Lefau, Bauer
Key Fwds
Lynch, Faull, Armstrong, Fawcett, Ryan, Kossi, Gray

I've probably missed someone. Looking at the list I love that our backline is solid and bolstered with quality youth that will be around for a while. Balta, Gibcus and Trainor will all be together for 5 years+

I'm concerned at our running backs, but Short may pull a finger out and this position can easily be replaced with 1st year draftees as North have shown with McKercher and Sheezal being very effective in this role in first year.
Contested Mids are stacked but our outside mids definitely needs work in next 2 years of drafting, trade or FA.

Reckon we let go 3 of Bauer, Lefau, Kossi, Ryan and Gray very soon, maybe even 4.

Lovely list building.
Go Tigers!
