Lalor in his 117 minutes as a midfielder "he is shooting the lights out."

As is No.1 draft pick Sam Lalor who is so composed whenever he’s near the ball. While Lalor only had 10 touches on Thursday night, he rarely makes a mistake and contributed with a goal and a goal assist, possessing the innate ability to find his teammates in tight situations.

Kane Cornes is loving what he is seeing from Lalor who has spent the majority of his time at AFL level playing as a forward with small stints in the midfield.

“Lalor is something else, he really is,” said Cornes.

“I’m captivated by what a good footballer he is. That sounds so simplistic, but he makes the right decisions at the right time with the right option.

“There’s not an ounce of selfishness in him, he’s already got that team-first aspect, he glides in the air.

“There’s a lot to be positive about.”

Cornes’ love of Lalor prompted him to ask the question - Would you take Sam Lalor or Harley Reid?

David King replied: “Harley Reid. I think the kid will settle down.

“I think he’ll be a top player, he does some things…”

Cornes said: “Even though I’ve been critical of Reid’s actions, I’ve said in four to five years the product is going to be (great).

“But I think I’m taking Lalor. I think he is a better ball user and he has a bit more nuance and smarts in his game.

“He appears to be better over his head. The way he floats through the air…”

King added further: “Some of his handballing… he’s a Shane Edwards.

“He’s a handballer that you don’t recognise at the time but they put their teammates into clear space.”

Needs to spend more time in the mid-field

At least 10 mins per qtr, minimum IMHO

I wonder if they are just protecting him a little off a 5 day break.

"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

Don't think the 5 day break had anything to do with it TBH. He's been playing minimal mid field minutes every game. Just think the need to up the minutes now

One v two
An entertaining subplot to a match that otherwise was unlikely to impact the finals series, last year's No.1 and No.2 draft selections met for the first time at AFL level. North Melbourne's Finn O'Sullivan landed the first blow, setting up the opening goal of the game with a neat kick inside 50 to Zurhaar, but it was Tiger Sam Lalor who stole the show. Bullocking through contested situations, flying at the footy, and hitting the scoreboard, Lalor finished the game with two goals from 16 disposals in a performance that demonstrated exactly why he was Richmond's first choice.

Fantastic today.

I just sit there and think how lucky are we? Going to love watching this kid develop and star for the next decade plus
