I'm mindful of spamming the draft thread so don't want to keep posting my own links. I've just posted an interview with Harry Chapman, and have another three scheduled for release over the next week (and hopefully more between then and the draft). The next three are Jacob McNicol, Jackson Phillips and George Dimer.

Instead of continually sharing the links, I'll post the 'Draft Chats' page here, and then let the forum know when new interviews drop.

https://readingtheplay.wordpress.com/draft-chats/

Keep seeing links to Harry Chapman for Richmond at the 2nd rounder (or compo selection. Via top 5 bidding).

Can you elaborate on your thoughts on that cheers.

South Australian AFL Draft prospect Kodah Edwards chasing AFL star’s ruthlessness

South Australian captain Kodah Edwards has highlighted how time training with Zak Butters laid the foundation for a year where he reinforced his first round prospects.

One, I think that's probably around his range. Perhaps the top end, but certainly he has the quality to be valuable at that point.

Secondly, I think it's a reasonable list fit. He's currently (and you have to look at him this way long term) an outside leaning, ground taking, damage dealing type. Rangy and long striding, he's very offensively geared and looks to move the game fast. Aggressive by foot and decent overhead. Has been working on his contest game and has shown improvements there.

I think with the likes of Lalor, Cumming, Hotton and hopefully Smillie occupying the centre square, adding a Chapman to the wing opposite Retschko is another nice list piece.

I've released a new draft chat with SANFL U18 Grand Final BOG Jacob McNicol. Really driven kid that will leave no stone unturned to become a better footballer.

On Wednesday there'll be another one with Jackson Phillips (considered at 15-30 draft prospect) and the Sam Devers (30+ but highly rated attributes guy) and George Dimer (20-40) will be later in the week. Hopefully a few more post that as well.

Given our apparent interest in Jake Riccardi. & Calsher Dear sounds like he is going to melbourne.

I wonder how close we look at:

• Sam Gayfer (Northern Knights) &
• Jack Pickett (Geelong Falcons)

if they are still there our picks.

Wil Malady (Gippsland Power) , is undersized but the most talented they reckon. Likly to be gone by our 2nd pick however. Would allow you to focus on runner post pick 2.

Van Hattum playing forward for a year or two while you have nankervis on the books is also a curious possibility.

That said we will probably just take a state league bloke to replace fawcett.

Well done Devils!

Key fwd duo: Miller & Jenkins
Powerful Mids: Sruk & Barker
Class: Stratford & McCallum
Unicorn Ruck: Walsh
X Factor Small Fwd: Brown

That's 7 of my prospective top 15 from next year's draft. Plus McCallum from this year's pool?. And maybe one more elite talent before year's end (Max Thompson, a creative utility has been linked).

Latest draft chat with Jackson Phillips is live. It's a really good insight into a driven and resilient young man. He's a ripper and it's well worth a read.

INJURIES STRIKE FOR COMBINE ATTENDEES

NEARLY a third of the prospects attending this week's Telstra AFL Draft Combine won't be completing the full regime of testing due to fitness concerns.

The likes of top-10 contenders Ethan Matthews (foot), Gus Teixeira (calf/foot) and Arki Butler (hamstring) are set to sit out testing, as will Marlon Neocleous (back), Jack Pickett (knee) and Jack Slattery (hip).

Kai Parker, Memphis Webb, Noah Williams, Seb Marsic and Angus White will also not take part in the testing due to injury.

Of the other players to be assessed before Thursday's 2km time trial, Toby Krasna, Mitch Harris, Dougie Cochrane, Kodah Edwards, Koby LeCras, Leo Steed and Jackson Phillips are also set to either sit out testing or not take part in the full run of athletic tests because of a range of fitness reasons.

More than 60 players will converge on Melbourne for the national Draft Combine from Wednesday through to Saturday, with the full day of testing on Saturday coming after large interview blocks with club recruiters on Thursday and Friday.

There is widely seen as a group of five leading contenders at the top of the open draft class: midfielder Ethan Drever, half-forwards Arki Butler and Gus Teixeira, half-back/midfielder Heath Mellody and ruck Harry Van Hattum.

Hey TW7 can i ask for your thoughts on Gale Knapp, Wright, Wigmore and AV-D.

Been an advocate of us somehow trading into a pick around 15 - 20, and a pick around 30 and im now also hoping we can snare a pick in the 20s for Short.

Have been pushing hard for a long while now that we have a list turnover of 8 - 12 players.

Have been hoping we take one of
4/ Drever or Mellody. I am totally averse to using such early picks on ruckmen. I also believe we are very short on for genuine mids.

15/ if 'we managed to get a pick here id be hoping we take a serious look at Eime, Williams and Edwards.

19/ good chance that one of the  three at 15 is there at 19. could not possibly turn our noses up with one of them still there could we.

23/ Gale think he is just about the best wing in the draft and exactly what we need on the other wing opposite Retschko. LeCras, Phillips and Patterson also good fits for us here.

27/ what we get for Short. Again one of the four mentioned at 23 is a good chance of being here still i think.  They all meet a list need.

30/ Yep the other draft pick i hope we could get in somehow. A V-D  im so tempted to take him much earlier than this but at 30 i think him a steal

38/ Knapp, Wigmore who i look at as a Vlastuin replacement in some ways and Wright who i think is an ideal fit since we delisted Fawcett.

56/60+ Armstrong and Leys

As you can see im all in on this draft and i think if we managed something like the above it would be great

Q: Who do you believe Richmond will take at pick 2 and who do you think they really should be looking at, if it's another player?

A: I know he's been talked about a little less in the second half of the year, but I'm not ruling out Harry Van Hattum - who has attracted significant interest from the Tigers. If he gets past Essendon, midfielder Ethan Drever will also be firmly in the mix. And WA midfielder Heath Mellody is coming with a bullet.

I think it's a good draft to be all in on. Having a glut of picks between 15-40 will result in a lot of good players being taken, and players from a variety of positions (which is ideal for clubs in a rebuild). I think it's not unreasonable to think one or both of Edwards and Williams will last to 19, and they'd be good options.

For the players you mentioned specifically:

Gale - good solid player. My query is on translation up to AFL given he's a slower type (although this has improved over the year, and his 2k was very good today). Good skills but doesn't really use his size to physically dominate. Likely wing option and pretty safe bet to at least be a solid player.

Knapp - I like him but he does feel like a great junior footballer and probably a very good VFL level player. Not elite standout trait (other than work rate / character) that gives him a clear point of difference at AFL level. Very good at everything, but a bit of a low impact accumulator despite being quite high IQ.

Wright - I'm always curious on the mature agers. They obviously improve post their draft year, but there were knocks originally that held them back. Wright has had a very good VFL year and his marking and goal kicking were very strong at that level. At worst becomes a more ready body to hold down a KPF role until the likes of Armstrong are up and going.

Wigmore - I like the Vlastuin replacement call. That is Wigmore's thing. High level and brave interceptor. Althoug kicking is a concern. Has also played forward so there's some versatility there. I expect clubs to look at him from about pick 30

AV-D - I really like him, and think he'll be the value pick of the draft. Not dissimilar to Dyson Sharp as a slower, contested and tough onballer. Van Dyk very good over head and neat by foot, but doesn't have the real power at stoppage. More a big and strong, but smooth moving type.
