Offers at the Trade Table for Rebuild
« on: Yesterday at 05:29:33 PM »
Where we are at atm, id genuinely offer up some of our better players, offer to pay a big chunk of their wages for decent picks.

We are 2nd bottom, instead of running down contracts of older players, I'd rather off load them and get some decent picks.

1. Noah Balta - His currency is low ATM, but would command a 1st round draft pick. Offer to pay majority of a front loaded contract as we have a lot of cap space which can't be filled by attracting top talent to play finals. So fill the cap by paying it for a traded player at another club.
Clubs that trade for Balta -
Saints for Pick 7. Need a 2nd decent Key back. Pick 7 may be overs.
Gold Coast Pick 10. Hardwick would take Balta in a heartbeat. Knows the game plan, GC need talent not picks. Their cap is getting tight and would jump at top talent whose contract is being paid for.
Dogs Pick 11. Dogs backline isn't elite, Balta would be their best key back.

2. Hopper, I am not convinced Hopper playing makes us an overly good side and not convinced we play in a GF in his peak years. Has had a good year and increased currency. Id explore options if anyone would part with a late first rounder.
Clubs who could trade for Hopper
GWS Pick 13. Giants may be interested in bringing Hopper back. I doubt Pick 13 would get the deal done. Maybe we'd have to balance this out.
Cats Pick 17. With understanding this pick is likely to be in the 20s. Cats engine room is avg on paper.

These two are not our heart and soul. They arent a Bank, Broad, Vlastuin type. Id genuinely explore the market and see if a club would be interested giving an overs pick for us paying majority of a players wage. Win - Win. Then in 2-3 years that money is freed up in our cap when our kids are of age to start a peak tilt at a finals tilt and possibly a big Free Agent signing.

Hopper & Taranto can be traded for sure.
They aren't winning a premier ship at Richmond.  More to the point the club isn't winning one with them playing

Not really.

The curfew rubbish was always going to take its toll.

He is being played in the wrong spot.

I don't agree, he's one of our best and most consistent young players. If you had to trade him it would definitely be to Tassie who will pay a premium.

Vlastuin

When you offload your better players, have to be careful not to trade out the soul. North Melbourne did this and they are stuffed. Essendon lost their soul with the drugs saga. Both been stuffed.

I think traded Vlastuin we lose some of that soul we built in the dynasty years. Same if we traded Broad or Nank. But Balta, Hopper and even TT I don't think we lose anything we can't get back in the draft.

Everyone has a price. I wouldn't trade anyone who is the heart and soul / fabric type players but Id be open to trading Seth for right price.

Hawks traded out Mitchell, Wingard and Omeara after they accepted they were not going to be part of their next tilt. Hawks are nearly there and Mitchell is finished. Omeara is too and Wingard not playing anymore.

It'd be a bold acceptance that Hopper and TT hasn't helped us win a flag, send them somewhere else who are contending and take some draft capital. We are 2nd bottom. Not sold they are essential to keep long term. We are likely to be worse for longer but will have 2 more key players in our next rebuild instead.

I agree but that's the industry standard ATM unfortunately.

We've had two 7-year contracts now, Dusty and Lynch, and whilst I love them both the hard truth is that in their last 2+ years they weren't worth the wage, it was paid for services given prior.

The guy who was made a life member today was traded after 250 games and being at the club since he was 17.

Then Richmond won 3 flags
