According to SEN about an hour ago, Shane Woewoedin and Jade Rawlings have also been interviewed for the assistant coaching role.

Schwarz on SEN reckons Rawlings is a done deal to become our assistant coach. Liam Pickering who manages/friends with Rawlings says no deal has been done yet but he's a good show.

Gee I hope not.

Don't get Duds to the club, get winners like Voss or Silvagni for goodness sake.

I have heard a lot of good reports about Jade also.

Apparently very smart and astute when it comes to coaching.

Silvagni turns his back on the Tigers
Caroline Wilson
The Age
October 4, 2006

STEPHEN Silvagni is weighing up his football future as his potential employer Richmond is on the verge of appointing the recently retired Jade Rawlings to its assistant coaching ranks.

Silvagni, who was recently interviewed for a Richmond job, is understood to have been unwilling to commit to the Tigers because of a two-year agreement stipulated by coach Terry Wallace, an indication that Carlton's full-back of the century wants to remain open to the possibility of a senior position at the Blues at the end of next year.

Silvagni, who has declared an ambition to coach and who will radically reduce his role at Channel Ten next season, is now expected to be interviewed for assistant positions at Geelong, St Kilda and potentially Hawthorn. The Tigers, meanwhile, will also secure an agreement with a player development manager this week, with former Brisbane Lion Craig McRae the frontrunner. There is tipped to be a vacancy at Hawthorn with assistant coach Todd Viney being pursued by Adelaide.

exactly, and btw, who would want silvagni anyway, he is as dumb as dog poo, hopeless at special comments, has done nothing to improve LRT, LRT is still the worst player in the afl!
let silvagni eventually go to carlton, if he becomes coach there in 08, he will just guaratntee they stay at the bottom

As mentioned on SEN and the RFC site, Rawlings has signed on as assistant coach for 2 years.

Rawlings a key appointment

Jade Rawlings will be given the big responsibility of tutoring Richmond's key position players in 2007 after the former Hawk, Bulldog and Kangaroos star was appointed the Tigers' new assistant coach on Wednesday.

Rawlings replaces the long-serving David Wheadon and will begin work with the Tigers in late October.

Richmond is also expected to announce another addition to its coaching panel in coming days with former Brisbane goalsneak Craig McRae the favourite to be named in the new position of player development manager.

Rawlings on SEN
« Reply #57 on: October 04, 2006, 05:06:59 PM »
Rawlings was just on SEN:

* He feels very fortunate to get a job straight away after retiring at a club that's on the cusp under a top coach.

* Will be responsible for brother-in-law Richo including his body language, lack of chasing out of the forward line etc (laughs...)

* Familiar with the Tiger boys who have played senior footy but needs to tidy up on the Casserly's etc.

* As he became a senior player he got interested in coaching. Likes helping people as well as preventing them from wrong things he did as a player.

* His role - accountable for our KPPs but that's still being fully organised. Also will spend time at Coburg.

* Wishes he could start tomorrow as he's really keen.

* Schwarz asked Rawlings what he could offer to the club's forward and backline? Rawlings said he was asked that in his interview and wasn't sure which end he could offer more than the other but his answer was forward line in terms of what he knew worked well as well as what he didn't like copping from backmen. He played backline for alot of his career too so he's familiar with both ends of the ground.

* Confirmed Woewoedin is one of the candidates for the other position but not sure where he is at. Rawlings said he would be a good choice if he got the job.

A Tiger supporting caller just rang in saying what's going on down at Punt Road getting basically a dud like Rawlings as assistant coach. Schwarz jumped in and said Rawlings' knowledge of the game is excellent and you need to sit down with him to see it.

I would have to agree with the caller. This is by far the worst decision made by the club since the arrival of Wallace. I felt for Jade when the Hawks basically screwed him a couple of seasons ago in the trading process but I don't believe from what I have seen of his demeaner that he has got what it takes to be a successful member of a coaching staff.

Wowoden (sp) will be a similar mistake if taken, McCrae (sp) would be the better choice.
