Pre-Season Draft
« on: October 13, 2006, 01:52:38 AM »
It's probably rubbish but there's a thread on BF that says we may convince Polak to put a 1-year 600k contract on his head so we can get him in the PSD and stuff Freo altogether and then re-sign Polak for 150k for 2 years in 2007 so the overall deals average out to be 300k per season over 3 years. Similar to what Hawthorn wants to do with Thorton. Royal heading off to Perth midweek to see Polak and the fact Tuck has subsequently been taken off the trade table has got tongues wagging.

In the paper today the AFL say that sort of thing is legal and it's not draft-tampering to frontload contracts. Because we are only paying the bare 92.5% minimum in TPP, we supposedly can fit the 600k within our salary next year but spread the payments over the 3 years so we don't go over budget.

Your thoughts?

Well there goes that idea lol.

Who will we now pick up in the PSD? Apart from Thorton there's no one else obviously available or at least who will still be around by our pick 8. Will we pass on the PSD altogether?  ???

What about this Perry dude fron North Melbourne.

You can never have too many KP players, would put pressure on players like Sarge and Razor

No idea what happened with Perry. A week ago we supposedly had offered him a 2-year deal when North had only offered him one. By midweek there was only "minor interest" and today not a word  ???. If he wanted out of North you'd thought he and especially North would have looked to trade him this week.

Perry is meant to out of contract.

Seen on the news that north started training today.

Does anyone know if Perry fronted up? He maybe someone we are after for the PSD?

The following names were mentioned in The Australian today. Any interest from us here for the PSD?

Brisbane's Tim Notting, who has only been offered a one-year-deal by Brisbane;

Essendon's Adam McPhee, who is yet to agree on terms with the Bombers,

Adelaide forward Scott Welsh who remains in contract dispute with the Crows;

Kent Kingsley, who quit the Cats during the VFL finals series;

Geelong midfielder Tim Callan,

Hawthorn's Nick Ries and Josh Thurgood, two of six Hawks delisted yesterday.

Kent Kingsley, who quit the Cats during the VFL finals series;

I've said it before and I'll say it again I can see some merit in getting Kingsley - he'd be bloody cheap and decent back up if we suffer some injuries and Schulz has to go down back

After looking at a history of the pre-season draft, I think Richmond would be better off not picking anyone, or using the pick on a youngster who missed out in the National Draft (Matt White).

That is where most of the success seems to come from.

I hope we go that way too wayne and give a youngster a chance. Why pick up another recycled dud like a Weller or Marsh and just waste a spot on our list :help.

Miller said today that we will have 5 choices in the draft this year. So that may means 4 in the National draft and one in the PSD.
