I'd like a journo to ask if Jack would:-
A. Like to be part of the leadership group
B. If yes, share with us where his teammates and or coaches feel he needs to better show his leadership in order to be voted on that leadership team

Because he says all the right things and yet belongs in the "unofficial" leadership group - why?
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Big year again Jack. I think some underestimate the importance of Jack and the structure we are able to build around him. Would be in the top group of players in our team for mine.

Go Jack!!

Yep, good post

Reckon it's pretty simple really, we are a better side with Jack in it that what would be without him

We are a better side with him in but I do think he needs to lift from last season. The stats for Jack lie as to his performances. Both for and against him. He does get to alot of contests that dont show up on the stats (like some other players, but we wont go into that) He has alot of little 1 percenters that again dont show up.  On the negative side, he did have many games where he was missing until late in games, he got stats when they were not important as it was too late to influence the result. This is where I think he need to improve his performance. That and his kicking for goal at times.  If Jack is elite (as some say) then he needs to just grab some games early, that was not there last year.  Not easy I know but that's what elite players do.

From Riewoldt's media conference at Elsternwick McDonald's today.
Jennifer Phelan

February 5, 2015

In May last year Riewoldt irked Hardwick by talking about how the Tigers' game plan was failing to stand up following their round nine loss to Melbourne.

Riewoldt memorably said the Tigers "went one way with our game and the game went the other", and claimed they had unsuccessfully tried to copy Hawthorn's renowned kicking game too much.

Hardwick said at the time the club was disappointed with Riewoldt's comments.

Riewoldt said his relationship with his coach had remained strong despite the hiccup last season and it had been a one-off occurrence for which he took responsibility.

"I wouldn't say it's been a bumpy ride; I'd say there was a small blip and that was on my behalf," he said.

"The coach and I obviously have a very good working, professional relationship and we're very good friends off the field as well.

"It's the great thing about our football club, that our culture is breeding characters that are very strong whether they be players or coaches."

Riewoldt also imposed a brief media ban on himself in February last year after he didn't like the way his attitude had been portrayed after missing out on being in the Tigers' leadership group.

He said he wasn't being distracted by such things this year.

"I'm solely focused on playing footy at the moment," he said.

"I'm just trying to put my best foot forward in pre-season and really set myself for a good 2015, which can hopefully lead the Tigers in the right direction."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the NAB Challenge just around the corner, Riewoldt gave the Tigers' pre-season campaign a tick of approval, with the disappointment of last year's brutal elimination final defeat at the hands of Port Adelaide a distant memory.

"It's not motivation for us (now)," he said.

"It is what it is - it's the past and we don't dwell in the past. For us it's about focusing on the pre-season and setting ourselves up strongly for 2015."

By the way, Jack has raffled off that train ticket he bought when he was trying to evade the media last year. He said, he hasn't caught the train since lol.

Dermott Brereton turns the blowtorch on one name from every AFL club

    Dermott Brereton
    Herald Sun
    March 14, 2015

EVERY player and coach will have questions asked of them in 2015, but some are bigger than others.

Hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton nominates one name from every club who could be the difference between success and failure this season. Can you name them?

RICHMOND

I am very talented but won’t be part of a premiership team unless I find a new role to play.

And, while I’m at it, I need to work on my body language, too.

This season is critical to the legacy I will leave at the club. Who am I?

Answer: Jack Riewoldt
