HIS purple kombi van died on the way back from the club’s community camp in Phillip Island a few weeks ago, his hole-proof surfing technique is being hampered by an undersized board and he enjoys the high-pitch tones and financial advice of balding television presenter David Koch.
“I don’t mind Sunrise with Kochie … he’s a pretty funny bloke.”
Welcome to the world of exciting new recruit Jack Riewoldt. The former Tassie Mariners player was among several young squad members given a chance to strut their stuff in the Challenge Cup match against Sydney last weekend.
“I didn’t really get settled until the end of the third and into the last quarter,” Riewoldt said. “But it was just good to get a game under the belt and experience the intensity.”
Things couldn’t have gone better for him in last year’s 2006 NAB AFL Draft. He was selected with pick 13 overall by Richmond, earning him the chance to play alongside his football idol, Mathew Richardson, a player he continues to be in awe of.
“I’ve really just tried to base my game my work ethic and my outside lifestyle on what Richo does because he’s so professional,” Riewoldt said. “A lot of people don’t see that outside the club and what he does to get his body up every week.”
