Thats effing poohouse

Bowden was a great player and would have been a legend in any other team. So was Wayne Campbell but did you dislike him too?

Bowden was a two faced coward who shirked HBGs.
Even took the game into disrepute by abusing the scoring system in yet another cowardly act of boldness - lol
Why do u think Rawlings basically put him into early retirement?
Hmmm-we dont talk about that too much,Do we.?
Bowden was at the crest of thinking he as bigger than the club on top of which he was a total effing dud and hypocrite suCking dog.

ANYTHING ELSE??

Campbell>>>>>>>>>bowden

now you prove to me you don't watch footy. And how come you don't use Bowdens nationality when abusing him?
I watched live every game played during his era. I've met him personally on numerous occasions. The guy bled yellow and black. He loved the jumper with an absolute passion. FACT is that he was playing with a whole lot of duds who weren't much more than VFL players if that. We had no recruiting & no development departments and it was left to Richo up forward and bowden up back week in week out. Ottens hated the place and had no interest being there.
Richo and Bowden both sons of the club and wouldve done anything for it.
At family days both were first out for fans and last in. And I put Campbell in the same category. All would have loved more success and did all they could for the club. It was the club that failed them and us time and time again.
And one last thing on Bowden. No-one at the club worked harder at community service at his time at the club than he did.......he's the one you call hypocrite dog.
Again you call them names but you wouldn't dare say it to their face.

Bowden still attends games now in Richmond attire.

He cared.

And still cares.

The wrap he gets on this forum is a stuffing disgrace.

Another Richmond player that cops it unfairly on here is Tivendale. A fact with him (straight from the mouth of Gregg Swan, current Collingwood CEO at the time) was that he was offered over double the money from collingwood that he took to stay a tiger.

Some players live their days out as the whipping boys without people having any idea what goes on

I wish he cared about Jake King being able to breathe when Tarkyn Lockyer had Kingy's throat pinned to the MCG with his forearm.

anybody.......................
I'll bite  ;)

For mine Joel Bowden was maligned for three reasons:

(i) As a 18 year old there were people calling him the next James Hird. He actually was a inside and outside player when he first started but busting his collarbones so early in his career affected him and his confidence in his body greatly and he was very much an outside player for about the next 7-8 years. I remember a game against Collingwood in about 2002 when he went for a one handed mark by the boundary and a few on the members wing almost jumped the fence. It wasn't until Joel was moved late in his career to KP defender that he seemed to regain confidence in his shoulders again and would float back into oncoming forwards or go 1-on-1 against the Jonathan Brown's of the AFL. However it was those middle years in his "prime" that many Tiger fans remember and label/criticise him by. Stanton at Essendon is copping the same treatment. Footy supporters are unforgiving at times.

(ii) He was one of those players that looked laconic when they played. Those type of players always cop it.

(iii) We've had continually crap sides so our better players were forced to carry 3/4 of the side that were hopeless. We've got posts in this very thread laughing at how bad that listed side is yet as supporters we expected at that time for a side like that to win lol. When it didn't win or owrse got thrashed then the better players seemed to cop the blame more for not doing enough as expectations of them where high whereas as the duds were excused because they were duds. Pretty hard to carry a side full of spuds who really belonged in local metro/country leagues instead of the AFL.

correct on all counts.  :thumbsup
richo was maligned for not kicking straight but he had more pressure to kick them than anyone else in the league because it was an absolute struggle to get the ball to him.
Bowden was forced to play down back because he was a great kick. But he had the ball down that end 70% of the time.
Well done MT nailed it without resorting to childish and peeweak insults.

Agree with mighty tiges. I remember a game early in his career where Bowden ripped the WCE apart in a quarter then he did his shoulder. He was a very good kick thus he was sent to the backline. I remember another game in the mid 90s against North where North thrashed us by about 90 points Bowden was the only one in the side to stand up and everyone on this site would remember the game against port adelaide where he took the game saving mark. Too much was expected from too few in those days. We were carrying passengers who weren't up to it because of very poor recruiting. We relied way too heavily on our quality players. I feel deeply sorry for players like Bowden and Richo because they gave it all for the club and saw very little success.

Agree entirely.

As for the Youtube clip. Bowdo had checked out mentally by that stage of Wallet's final year.
Kingy's frustrations got the better of him that day.
We were a rabble under a coach that was truly fraudulent. After his departure there was little to play for and we finished last.

Therefor I don't allow that particular incident to taint what IMO was an outstanding career for Richmond.
Bowdo is welcome at my table any time he likes.
