Nice of Garry to try and steal Terry's idea of those teams finishing 9th get the first draft pick
Still don't know why the picks can't be paired up e.g. for rounds 1 and 2.
1 and 32
2 and 31
3 and 30
.
.
15 and 18
16 and 17
And the clubs choose which pair they want based on the depth they perceive in the draft. Last finishing club gets first choice.
Same could be done for rounds 3 and 4. For rounds 5, 6, 7, 8 etc go to the current setup where the bottom side gets the first pick in each round.
It means that the last club gets some advantage, but discourages 'bottoming out'.
Also mystified as to why the NRL is so much more even and harder to tip yet they don't have a draft - just the salary cap. Is it the one-on-one nature of the AFL game and the longer game time that results in more blow outs or is it the AFL discouraging teams from being competitive?
