Another boardroom battle looming??? Only way for past players collective to get Sheeds on as coach is to spill the board....

:gobdrop
The decision on the new coach will be made well before the AGM in December and even then only 3 directors are up for re-election. Remember Wallace was appointed before the 2004 election fracas. The past players would have to either pressure the Board to resign en masse (ain't going to happen) or call for a EGM.

Wont be the first or the last time a board member has resigned due to public pressure. You only need March to go for the board to change direction.

And it will not be the first time Kevin Sheedy has influenced how the Richmond board does business in the past 10 years....

Caro on 3aw just now said she has no idea who our new coach will be but repeated it won't be Sheedy. It's not the direction the current board and admin want to go. They'll listen to him but he won't get the job. Richmond will go for an untried coach but if they did go for a experienced coach then don't rule out Mark Williams. No certainty he'll coach Port next year.

March will step down at the end of 2010 but you'd hope the Club has learnt to stand up to public pressure. They've done so with the past two coaches seeing out their terms and although the past 5 years has been a failure at least now with this upcoming appointment we have 10-15 decent candidates putting their hand up to coach us and no one telling the Club no thanks in hell as was the case when Spud became the Steven Bradbury of senior coaching. We've gone from only Spud applying, to Wallace and Eade, to now 15 applicants. The off-field stability has at least now paid off on that front. No point risking all that listening to old foggies in the past players association who have only screwed the club with their hissy fits for three decades. Some quality young coaches want the Richmond job and who can blame them now that there is a young core to build upon and develop and the club is bringing our footy dept facilities up to one of the best in the AFL over the next 12-18 months.

This is a win-win situation.

We either follow the process and get the best man for the job, or hire Sheeds and Caro's credibility is in tatters.

That's unfair on Bradbury, he actually won something

Great post MT, lets hope that is exactly how the board are seeing things.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Agree 100% with this MT. But the club and the board are still prone to crumbling under pressure. Only need to look at how the recruiting process went out the window when Sheedy publically called for Cousins to be recruited. March & Cameron just didnt have the stomach to win that fight.

And go over to BF and see how many normally reasonable posters went in to bat for Sheedy to coach last week. Its hysterical how we never learn at this footy club.

Umm, no. March and Cameron didn't cave in they were deceived by the AFL who had promised what they couldn't deliver.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

He also took us to finals, something that history shows Walls Giesche and the Dried Sultana failed to do. For a job nobody wanted and just fell into his lap tell me who here did not think he was making a great fist of things in 2001 or in early 2002 when we made the pre season grand final?

I still remember the old long gone Richmond forum "Tigerfury" going nuts when Spud said we were only a couple of goalkickers away and recruited Hudson and Houlihan at the end of 2001 :P.
