Caro said Gibcus has been a disappointment.

Disappointment implies that's he hasn't been playing well....

WTF - What she should have said is that he's been injured.

Honestly, i could do a better job on Footy classified.

That's the way you've taken her comment to mean

I took it to mean the injuries have meant the return so far has been disappointing that is the number of games

You obviously missed her comments around our younger players when the 3 musketeers were spruiking lead by Cornes that we had no decent young players coming through? She talked up Gibcus, McAuliffe, Brown to name a few

Maybe she meant that but what she actually said was "Gibcus has been a disappointment".

Lloyd rightfully pointed out that every single club in the league has young players that seem somewhat promising eg Brown/McAuliffe. And they do.

I don't think the rest of the panel were far off the mark to be honest.

Didn't see it, but even at face value for the written statement I wouldn't consider her to be disparaging of Gibcus. She's clearly talking about his disappointing run with injury. Not a single AFL observer would say his performance has been disappointing.

Well she wasn't clearly saying that. She said he's been a disappointment. That was the statement.

It's not up to everyone else to decide what she means

No, it's up to us to interpret it, and because I'm not an idiot I can see what she meant clearly.

Grimes is a disappointment

What do I mean, Andy?

Hmmm well let's see.

Grimes is 32, played 200+ games for the club, came via the PSD, has 3 premiership medals, an AA jacket, a B&F, is the former captain of the club and in the twilight of his career.

Gibcus is 20, came to us as a top 10 draft pick, and is now going to be sidelined for two full years of his first 3 years with the club.

I wonder what could be disappointing about Gibcus' situation?

Let's get the brains trust together and see if we can figure it out.

You would think unfortunate would be the word, wouldn't you. However it's not the first time she's said he's a disappointment. It's a bit of Cumberland with a few on here. A weird one.

Let her explain

Some of things the 3 musketeers were spot on about but they as per normal talked over Caro and jumped on her about her Richmond views and at times Bin Boy (though he'd struggle to fit in one these days) belittled her for whacking the AFL about the Tigers draw

Yeah but had a nice little dig at the end

Will give him credit for taking Cornes to task for not whacking the Hawks like he does Richmond. Although it didn't last long

I don't get this speed up our rebuild by getting rid of senior players rubbish. Hardwick spent years using recycled players to make up a competitive 22 while the kids came on. Remember Matt Thomas and Nathan Gordon and those types of retreads. There is no point in playing 18 juniors and getting our arses whomped each week. Keep the senior experience while you can and accept your going to add games to at most 10 new players each year but do it in competitive games with a core of senior players around the kids. This will go on for two or 3 years until Gibcus and the like have 50+ games.

"I'll be surprised if a key Tiger is not a Docker next year with that [draft] hand they've got."

Matthew Lloyd says Adem Yze and Richmond need to be more ruthless if they're to fast-track their rebuild.

Lloyd is a hypocrite. When he got "looked in the eye" by Knighta all those years ago he sooked it up and quit.

As for Barrett his anti Richmond bias for show for all to see. Even Eddie shot him down over a couple of his ramblings

Why Richmond coach Adem Yze needs to be 'ruthless' with older players as rebuild looms

Anna Pavlou
Nine
July 11, 2024

Matthew Lloyd is concerned that Richmond coach Adem Yze isn't being "ruthless" enough with his mature-aged players, as the Tigers slump to the bottom of the ladder.

Richmond sit in 18th with a 2-14 record, with Yze admitting that a rebuild has been the plan since he took over at the start of 2024.

It's a big drop off from the Tigers of old, who just four years ago had collected their third premiership in four years.

"They're lost with their direction at the moment," Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified on Wednesday night.

"He can't control the off field stuff, but he can control the on field.

"I'd be ruthless now and go, 'OK, it's now round 18, I've had enough. I need to start planning and I've got money I thought I didn't have. I'll start hunting and being more aggressive'."

Lloyd called out a number of players who have reportedly met with other clubs during 2024, urging Yze to sit them down and question their ongoing commitment to the Tigers.

"If it's Dan Rioli, look him in the eye and go, 'do you want to go or not? Do you want to be here?'," Lloyd said.

Rioli is one of a number of players who could be looking to move at season's end.

The premiership defender met with former Richmond coach Damien Hardwick during the club's bye weekend, on the Gold Coast.

Fremantle has reportedly already met with Richmond forward Shai Bolton, who is still contracted with the Tigers until the end of 2028.

There is also natural interest from midfielder Liam Baker, who is from WA, to return home.

It has Lloyd worried that the Tigers could lose key stars without preparing for the hole they'll leave.

"All I'll say is, I'll be surprised if a key Tiger is not a Docker next year, with that (draft) hand they've got," Lloyd said.

The Dockers have picks 10, 13, 16, 25 and 61 in this year's draft.

In 2025, they'll have first, second, third and fourth round picks.

But Geelong great Jimmy Bartel is convinced Yze is just being overly cautious when addressing Richmond's outgoing premiership players.

"He's just overcorrect in being incredibly respectful to the premiership stars," Bartel said.

That doesn't mean these hard conversations about the club's new direction haven't occurred, Bartel added.

"He might be having those conversations," he said.

"But, everything public is, respect the guys who got them there."

There’s a good reason these blokes were never going to be coaches, can’t see the future looking in a mirror
Getting rid of all your better  senior players at the same time fails, ask Hawthorn how that went a few years back
