And do we have the money to do that? We're a poor club at the moment, if we did what some of you are suggesting, we'd have to be taking money from somewhere else. Maybe 1 less coach or 1 less sport scientist or a couple less recruiters. Either way, some part of our organisation will suffer as a result.

I dont care necessarily if its Riewoldt or who it is but as a Richmond supporter I expect my club to get a big name player at the end of the year in the PSD if we finish last. As a RFC person thats what I want to see from my club. Ambition, Ruthlessness, Results!

I prefer realism.

If we can get a similar result to the Simmonds situation I will be happy. Use our PSD pick as leverage to get a good trade deal on a pretty good player, then use the PSD on the best available out of contract player.

In the Sunday Age today, Hutchy reckons we must chase Nick.

WTF Would that c unt know.

He has no right to even comment on the RFC as he knows next to nothing about the game.

Geesh if people think Crazy John is our saviour then we are in worse position than our on-filed results indicate. ::)

You need to be very careful taking $$$$ off some one who places conditions on their sponsorship or anything else :banghead

Ramps - you forget one very important thing and out of contract player has to want to come to us - there is absolutely no point in selecting someone who doesn't want to be there. All these "star players" will end up somewhere and it will be more likely prior to the PSD

HUTCHY HAS HIS SAY: Tigers should pounce on Riewoldt

RICHMOND must launch a fast, aggressive and lucrative bid to attempt to lure Saint Nick Riewoldt away from Moorabbin. And it must move now. The Saints' co-captain remains unsigned by the Saints, who are determined to do whatever it takes to re-sign him.

But the Tigers are morally bound to their supporters to launch a bid and make the Saints just a bit uncomfortable. Let's be honest here: if Richmond doesn't finish bottom then it will finish 15th at best.

It has massive bargaining power via the pre-season draft and it has major salary-cap space to make a big play. It has a marquee forward, Matthew Richardson, in the twilight of his career. It has Riewoldt's great friend, forward Nathan Brown, and his cousin, Jack Riewoldt.

And it has a recruiter, Greg Miller, who is renowned for bold recruiting stunts. Most of all, it owes its supporters one almighty attempt given the poor season. While Riewoldt has a great relationship and respect for Ross Lyon, there's no doubt the departure of Grant Thomas left the door just a tinge ajar for a rival recruiting bid. If only that the Thomas departure delayed negotiations due to the management reshuffle.

It is unthinkable to think Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo are yet to be made formal offers despite the commencement of talks. And while the Saints have signalled now they mean business in re-signing both of their stars, rival clubs have the slightest of windows now — read, next four weeks — to make it so much tougher. The Tigers owe it to their fans to go down fighting, however tough the battle.

Is he something we need, I thought we could probably do with a bit of mid-field class or bolster or ruck stocks.

I agree with Hutchys article. RFC is morally bound to its supporters to chase and chase hard to get a star. Thats what it comes down to.

We've already got two of the worst shots at goal in the comp playing up front.

May as well go for the trifecta.

;D

I wouldn't touch any St Kilda player either with their soft-tissue injury history over the past 4 years.  Asking for trouble.
