I'm really in the middle on this one. I want pick one or two, and not pick three; and that priority pick at 17 or 18 could turn out to be immensely valuable in the long run. I also really want a win as well.

So I've decided that the way to go is to draw with the Saints, which keeps our priority pick (with 16 points) and guarantees that we avoid the spoon. The chances of a draw are very remote, but that's what I'd like in an ideal world. In this scenario (ie the draw), if Melbourne lose they get the spoon on percentage (and we get pick 2); if Carlton lose they get the spoon, and picks one AND two due to inferior percentage (and we get pick 3).

Carlton have the draft pick reguardless they have control over the situation

if they want a spoon effing give it too them as beating the saints is what l want
l'm still humiliated after frawley had us line up and clap off Burke after they pumped the pooh out of us at the Dome a few years ago something l will never forget

PUMP THE SAINTS

if we dont we we wont get anything for our lose & we will be classed as pooh for getting another spoon a tag not good for kids or sponsors or supporters
we will finish with #2 pick reguardless of the ladder 16th or 15th
& the bonus is we kill the Saints Finals hopes ;D
Yep I agree, especially about the Frawley bit.  Wouldn't you just love to see Jack make big cousin Nick cry?

Can't see that having a win will change people's opinions of us.  They still think we're crap.
Lose by a point and grab the credit for a great close game, but also hopefully get the number one pick.

But also depends if there's not much difference in picks one to three, in that case I'd say try and win at all costs.

But if there's someone we absolutely have to have, tank it by playing every kid on our list lol, who will actually probably go out and do their best anyway.  So not really tanking.

Finishing the season on a win can have more influence than you think especially for the young guys. It will be the last thing they remember before the first game next season. Momentum is everything and it does last through the break and the preseason. Unless it's absolutely crucial that we require a priority pick to get the player we need I'd say lets keep the ball rolling and go for two on the trot!  :thumbsup

Melbourne v Carlton ...

Melbourne Win: Carlton 1st, 3rd

Carlton Win: Richmond 1st

seems like carlton want that ruckman ... and we want a midfielder (Cotchin) ...

so i don't think that if we get 1st pick we will take that ruckman ...

so i believe try to stuff the saints up (which is unlikely) finish 15th and not get the wooden spoon ...

yet, if we get the wooden spoon ... we are going to clean out the list anyway ...

with ... Gaspar, Kingsley ... gone ... and 4 or 5 more players not there next year ...

our list will be very young and developing ... which is great ...

i am PRAYING ... that Tivendale, Moore, Hall, Knoble, Hartigan, P.Bowden are off the list ...

6 new 17,18,19 year olds would make 07 into an important year in our development ...

i just see some senior players saving there careers at the moment ...

Matthew Richardson
Kane Johnson
Nathan Brown
Joel Bowden
Shane Tuck
Kayne Pettifer
Troy Simmonds
Chris Newman

should be the ONLY SENIOR players still there !!!

You must be very young if a 25 year old is a senior!

Can't beat winning

Especially a win against a team that has no respect for us and thinks we are a rabble (and over the years they've known about rabbles ;D). Can't stand the Saints - a win against them is almost as good as beating the Pies, Bombers or Blues - seriously.

It would be great fillet going into 2008

I'm pro-tank this week  :wallywink

No one will remember a win this week in 5-10 years time but the youngster we pick up with our priority pick could be that extra player we need in that time to win a flag. With such shallow draft top 20 picks are too valuable to just throw away. More early picks means a better chance of picking up talent. We as a Club should play the percentages.

I like GB's idea. Go the draw  :thumbsup

Think about how you'll feel in a week after the euphoria of a win is gone, especially if Adelaide win and the Saints were knocked out of the finals anyway.
Then think about that lovely lump of a lad we might get who'll keep us salivating all summer  ;D

Easy choice really!

 :gotigers

History will show this is the era of tanking and the wooden spoon will be looked on as cheats rather than losers.

A credible loss in this situation I can handle pretty easy! :thumbsup

Understand totally where the other of ewes are coming from.
But during the game I will be barracking as hard as I usually do for a win.
If we lose I will be dissapointed, but will quickly get over it.
It's a hard un  :shh

We'll also lose first pick in the PSD if we win as well as lose our priority pick. A respectable 3.5 quarter performance will do me this week. We can't do much about what Carlton and Melbourne do on Sunday but we can control our own destiny as far maintaining the picks we have.
